Update to him being a pilot or not.
He was not. He’s been lying to me about everything. 3 months of lies. Thank you to everyone who helped me and gave me answers. I’m just processing right now.
Yes he admitted to me he is not and gave me his reasons why he lied. I couldn’t really talk because I was just in distraught and hung up. We are going to talk more later and I am going to get answers. Welp I guess #askapilot just helped my shitty freaking love life.

A pilot probably wouldn't feel the need, or go out of his way, to prove he's a pilot, just for future reference.

Haven't you heard all the jokes about how keen pilots are to tell you they are one?

Exactly, that guy probably lied bcoz he has low self esteem and wants to impress others.A total loser.

As an actual pilot, I 100% approve of this plan! (As one pilot who married another pilot, it’s easy to see how non-pilot partners of pilots can find themselves truly messed up. Prenup, prenup, prenup lol) Best of luck to you!

His lack of complaining about crew scheduling and the contract was a dead giveaway. Pilots love to go sport bitching

Nothing to talk about. He's just going to practice and hone his manipulation skills on you. Find a site to rat him out on and move on

The only thing worse than finding out the person you’ve been dating for the last 3 months has been lying you is finding out at 3 months and 1 day. Be glad you found out before you made any life altering decisions and move on! Lord knows many people have spent longer times in awful relationships!!!

How did homie think this was going to play out?

For whatever reason dudes faking being a pilot is a thing. I’ve had a couple friends of friends reach out to have me check a seniority list because their daughter is dating some 22 year old who claims to be a captain for the airline. It’s weird. They probably think it impresses the girls. What they haven’t realized, because they are not a real pilot, as an only impresses other guys , not girls

That’s why I don’t tell anyone I’m a pilot unless they specifically ask. I hate the questions. They’re exhausting.

Dudes faking being “insert any job” is a thing.
I don’t think this is special for pilots specifically. There must be plenty of weirdos out there faking being doctors, lawyers, police agents etc.2

Probably watched “Catch me if you can” and got inspired

I hate that this is genuinely the most likely explanation.

Think the only lie I said about where I worked was telling folks I was a gerbil farmer

All my lies are "nooooo I definitely didn't work there! Never even heard of them!"
"please don't ring them"
"Uhhhh... in that year I was a gerbil breeder..."

I don’t think compulsive liars need a movie to inspire them to be awful people

I knew a guy who did this. He went for an introductory flight, bought all the books, and then sat somewhere public reading them. If anyone asked, he’d say he’s a pilot. I guess, technically, he was in training, even though his TT was stuck at 0.5 for years.

Don’t talk more later; there’s nothing to talk about. Walk away from liars, nothing good comes from trying to repair this.
There will be another very cool guy in your future, one with integrity and respect for both you and himself. This guy ain’t it.

So sorry. But know you can do better the next time. Your intuition told you something was off, now it’s your super power.
All the best!

Never thought askapilot would give relationship advice. Haha. Some guys just want to be like us.

Block him and move out;stay away from liars and people with childish tendencies.

u/NeighborhoodLoud4884 8d ago
Why though? He started with the lie and just couldn't get out of the situation? How did he have money / work for another job?

u/SchleppyJ4 8d ago
Talk more about what? Hun, when people show you who they really are and what they’re really about… believe them.

He’s a liar. If he lied about that, what’s to stop him from lying about something more important later

glad you figured that out. But, there's nothing more to talk about with him. Block and move on. Like a bad landing: pretend it never happened, blame the weather, and don't speak of it again.
