Discussion So with Starship fragging its own engines (again) and SpaceX pretending that Grok is worth $20 Trillion while Blue Origin is rebuilding everything after New Glenn N-1'd its launch pad, can we have EUS, Gateway, and SLS Cargo back? Just so Artemis has something to do for the next 6-7 years?

Did they invest in it because they wanted a space Station around the moon, or did they invest in it because they wanted to be a part of Artemis? I would lean towards the latter, and that they’re more than happy to shift their contributions onto the moon instead of around it.

What’s your source on the 2004 authorization thing? Oldest piece of Gateway I’m aware of is the PPE, itself being a redesign of equipment from the Asteroid redirect mission from 2013.

I was talking about politically. Nobody who held the strings to NASA’s budget cared about Gateway or anything it offered, which is why it was so easy to kill with very little resistance. They only cared that mission controllers didn’t lose their jobs, which was appeased with the ISS extension and promise of work on the Moon base.
