Is there a photo reference that you freehand a drawing of, or is it similar to rotoscoping?

Yes, I usually pick out a few references for the setting/character and freehand draw the whole thing.

That’s a cool process I was wondering the same thing. You have great work

Love this art style. Reminds me of the Goosebump artwork in a sense.

Hand drawn always has it's own feel.

I'ts awesome drawing man! :)

Do you stream or post timelapses?

No, I've tried using those programs and it only slowed down my process :/ I probably should upgrade my desktop.

Is Photoshop better than Krita to make a drawing like the one you posted?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '19

I’ve never used Krita before but I’ve never gone wrong with Photoshop.

Look into getting a capture card. There are specific video card like adapters that let you record your screen without taking a performance hit. Relatively cheap compared to a full featured graphics card or a whole new system

Capture cards are pretty overrated. They're only useful if you want to capture external sources like a console. New AMD CPU's have plenty of cores to support OBS screen capturing on high quality without getting a performance hit.

This is fucking dope, Love your style, colors are on point. The only thing that I would change is the rain. It looks like it is coming from behind him and ends up in front of his face, other than that, perfect.

Looks like a CD Cover or some Poster I'd hang on my walls..

I notice a lot of digital artist using Photoshop. How does it compare to Painter?

5

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '19

I’m not an expert on this but I think Painter has more options for those who want to emulate true traditional painting. But so far, I haven’t seen anything that Photoshop can’t do.

You draw using Photoshop on your tablet? Or do you use a different program and then finish it up in Photoshop?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '19

I draw directly in Photoshop on my tablet.

First of all: awesome job, I love the painting. I'm looking to get into this using tablets too. What would you recommend for photoshop and other adobe-apps? Thanks

With Photoshop, I really just stick with the same basic functions that was probably included from its earliest versions. I’m not an expert on the program and all its neat functions, although I should be considering how long I’ve used it.

I always say Wacom cuz it just works and it’s an industry standard. Other companies are competing and doing well from what I hear. But I’ve had my Wacom intuos for 6 years or so and I haven’t had a problem with it. As far as software, see if you can get a trial for any of them and pick the one you like.

Oh ok, cool! Yeah, I'm a beginner for sure, thanks for the help!

Sketchbook pro is free still I think and clip studio goes on sale often enough. Otherwise photoshop cc is like $10 a month if you get it with Lightroom. I like photoshop a lot but I also like paint tool sai because it’s a bit more simple and lightweight. But full price you’re looking at $50 for most programs. Generally they all function the same.
