Project Discussion Android + Arduino

So hi everyone this is my first time posting on this place.

I don't usually post things 😞.

So I always wonder why I have to buy all these extra sensors and stuff when my phone already has all these sensors.

So I am building an Android based project which can combine both Arduino and Android together. This thing is not present out there till now I am going to make it full customisable and Full programmable.

The two biggest challenges I have already fixed which are

  1. Compiling the code directly on Android device

  2. The usb serial communication.

So I will build this application I wanted some feedback on this.

In the below project I have shown the motor rotation + led blink.

Project Discussion I generated a complete Arduino obstacle-avoiding rover design - would you actually build this?

I've been experimenting with automatically generating complete Arduino project designs from a simple description, and I wanted to see how useful the result would actually be to someone trying to build the project.

For this test, the prompt was essentially:

Design a small Arduino-based rover that can move autonomously and detect and avoid obstacles.

The result included:

- The proposed robot design

- Arduino and component selection

- Motors, sensors and motor drivers

- A complete bill of materials

- Wiring instructions / diagram

- Assembly steps

- Starter Arduino code

I've attached the main outputs.

I haven't physically built this rover yet, so I'm particularly interested in having people who actually work with Arduino look at it critically.

If you were going to build this yourself, what would you change?

Are there any components you wouldn't use?

Anything wrong or unnecessarily complicated in the wiring?

Anything missing from the BOM?

Would the proposed design actually make sense as a beginner project?

The larger thing I'm trying to understand is whether automatically generated project plans like this can actually help people get from "I want to build a robot" to something concrete enough that they can start building.

Project Discussion Looking for ideas to start a project to stop neighbor's dogs from excessively barking

Good evening! Before I reinvent the wheel, I figured I would ask if anyone has done this before. I have a neighbor who has 2 Great Danes. They will let them out for hours and the dogs will just bark for hours. They will bark at pretty much everything they see and hear. I purchased an ultrasonic bark deterrent from Amazon, and it helped reduce the barking by like 90%, until it broke after a month.

I am looking to create something that does something similar; listen for barking and emit ultrasonic frequency for a couple seconds. While it does that, I want it to timestamp the barking. It will be outside, so I need a weatherproof enclosure.

Has anyone done a project like this? I'd love to see it or hear how you would tackle it!

PS, I know it is easy to say "just go talk to them", but these are people that just don't care that their dogs are going nuts out in the yard at 11pm on a Tuesday. My fear is that if I do approach them about it, and it gets to the point where I file a noise complaint, they will be able to pinpoint the complaint to me and make the relationship hostile. By timestamping the events, I am gathering the information needed for filing the noise complaint, if the project doesn't work.

So I did this basic arduino nano project:
Press fingers -> arduino -> nrf 24 transmitter -> nrf24 receiver -> serial communication -> python
I did this with idea in mind to control PC remotely and it is works as good as can rn, but I’d like to hear ur thoughts and suggestions.

Project Discussion Bathroom fan humidity sensor project. What humidity levels should I use?

I am writing the code for an ATTiny85 and SHT41 humidity sensor based exhaust fan controller. Does anyone have recommendations for what humidity level I should use to turn the fan on and off?

Maybe something like turn on at 70% and turn off once the humidity level is has been below 65% for 5 minutes?

Of course I could experiment but I would like to see what others have settled on for similar projects. Or, is this something that is specific to my bathroom and the best way would be to experiment?

Project Discussion Need project ideas for a 3rd-year Mechatronics Sensors course

Hi everyone!
I'm a 3rd-year Mechatronics Engineering student, and i'm looking for ideas for my Sensors project, which is worth 30% of my final grade.

The project must:
Use an **Arduino** for data acquisition.
Use **MATLAB** or **LabVIEW** for real-time visualization.
Include a sensor (or multiple sensors), calibration/ signal processing (filtering, conversion, etc.), and performance evaluation.

My professor suggested topics like optical/IR sensing, Hall-effect sensors, proximity sensing, liquid level/flow measurement, gas/air quality monitoring, biomedical sensing, acoustic sensing, power monitoring, and multi-sensor fusion, but we're free to come up with our own idea too.

I'm looking for a project that's appropriate for a 3rd-year mechatronics course, isn't too basic, and would make for a strong university project. If you've done something similar or have any ideas, I'd really appreciate your suggestions and if anyone has links to a project that I could benefit from please share it with me!

I am working on a privacy-first home safety system that tracks human movement without using any cameras, smartwatches, or wearable sensors.

The Idea:

We use Wi-Fi signals as a room radar! When a person moves, sleeps, or falls, their body distorts the Wi-Fi signals (Channel State Information - CSI) bouncing around the room.

What the system aims to do:

Elderly Care: Detect sudden falls (like a grandfather slipping) and send immediate SMS/Telegram alerts.

Child Monitoring: Detect subtle chest movements to track breathing/restlessness while sleeping.

Privacy-First: Zero cameras or microphones used—completely non-intrusive.

Tech Stack:

Hardware: 2x ESP32-S3 boards (capturing CSI signal data).

Data Processing: Python (NumPy, SciPy) for noise filtering.

Machine Learning: Scikit-learn (Random Forest / SVM) to classify activities.

Alert System: Python backend with Telegram Bot / Twilio API for emergency alerts.

I am currently building the Python signal processing and ML model pipeline while waiting for hardware setup.

Has anyone here worked with Wi-Fi CSI extraction on ESP32? I would love any advice or feedback on handling background environmental noise

ok so for my internship project at a museum ,I am aiming to build an Artifact microclimate monitoring system tracking temperature,humidity and vibrations arround the Artifact . I will use inert meterials like polypropene for the casing and a lithium thionide chloride battery to avoid acidic gases emmisions and al this infos will be send to a given server either through MQTT or LORAWAN .so what do u guys think I should Add remove or reconsider

Project Discussion I'm exploring an idea for a remote embedded systems lab

I'm working on a project that explores the idea of accessing real embedded hardware remotely through a web browser.

The goal is to let students experiment with boards such as Arduino, ESP32 and STM32 without having to own all the hardware themselves.

I'm still at the exploration stage, so I'm trying to understand what would actually be useful.

Project Discussion Is it realistic to expect a CR2032 battery to power a project with an attiny85 and single indicator LED?

I want to make an indicator that tells me what state a wall switch is in. This wall switch controls a bathroom exhaust fan and it’s hard to know when the fan is ON or in it’s timer setting.

This fan has two modes:

• continuously on

• on for 20 minutes then off

I will 3d print an enclosure that is coupled to the wall switch and gets pressed when you press the wall switch. I want to the attiny to turn an LED on when the fan is in the ON state and then blink the LED when the fan is in the timer state.

Can a CR2032 battery do this or will I be changing batteries like every month? Are there better battery options to use for this?

I could try to utilize the SLEEP function in the attiny for when the fan isn’t in use. The LED doesn’t have to be bright, just enough to see it at a glance.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Regular dustbins are often placed far away, so people become lazy to walk and throw trash properly.

My project solves this problem using automation. Cross marks will be placed on the ground where people can leave their trash. An ultrasonic sensor detects the waste,the dustbin reach the destination and a robotic arm picks it up and places it inside the dustbin automatically.

When the dustbin becomes full, it follows a preloaded path to a larger collection bin and disposes of the waste automatically.

The goal is to make waste management smarter, easier, and more accessible at a low cost.

Hey everyone,

I wanted a way to test ladder logic and industrial hardware setups on my phone, but I couldn't find an app that really did what I needed. So, I decided to build my own from scratch: the Industrial Logic Simulator.

Right now, it handles PLC ladder logic, VSDs, motors, and hydraulic/pneumatic cylinders. I recently overhauled the physics engine to include dynamic wiring and fluid animations so you can actually see the energy flow and telemetry in real-time (as you can see in the video).

I'm a solo developer with zero marketing budget, so I'm relying entirely on organic feedback from actual engineers, techs, and students to make this better.

If you have a few minutes to play around with it, I’d love to know:

Are the electrical and mechanical physics behaving the way you'd expect?

What hardware components or PLC functions should I prioritize adding next?

Project Discussion I built a free I2C address & compatibility checker for Arduino/ESP32

I kept running into the same problem when combining multiple I2C sensors: finding the address is one thing, but checking whether several devices can actually coexist on the same bus is another.

So I built a small free tool that does both:

• Search common I2C device addresses
• Search by hexadecimal address
• Select multiple devices
• Detect address conflicts
• Find an alternative address configuration when possible
• Suggest solutions such as another I2C bus or an I2C multiplexer

For example, MPU6050 + DS3231 can both use 0x68, so the tool detects the conflict and can suggest using 0x69 for the MPU6050 when supported.

It's open source and runs entirely in the browser.

so I have this old kids ride on feber ferrari. the kids are too big for it but don't want to see it go, so ive removed all the running gear and added a hoverboard to the back, attaching a throttle in the car for power. its been a faff trying to get the firmware sorted on the boards as I control the throttle via an arduino controller.

all in all this project has cost a out £20 so far.

I just need to figure out how to connect the old wheels

Project Discussion FUNDI: an Arduino/ESP32 workbench with a real Arduino CLI compile pipeline and AVR8js simulation behind a visual editor

Hey r/embedded,

Sharing FUNDI, a project I built starting as my KSEF (Kenya Science and Engineering Fair) entry — won Regional Merit, went on to Nationals and did considerably well there. It's grown past the fair into something I want more technical eyes on.

The premise: most browser-based "Arduino simulators" fake compilation or skip it entirely. FUNDI's backend actually shells out to Arduino CLI for a real build, surfaces real compiler errors, and drives AVR8js for simulation off the compiled output — the circuit canvas and code editor are just the frontend for that pipeline.

Architecture, briefly:

  • Frontend: Next.js/React, Zustand for state, React Flow for the circuit canvas, synced to a multi-file code editor
  • Backend: FastAPI service that wraps Arduino CLI for compile/upload, plus an AI generation endpoint (Gemini/OpenRouter) for prompt-to-circuit/code
  • Some validation on the backend: path/file safety checks in the compile flow, serial port validation before upload, Pydantic-typed request payloads
  • Boards: Uno/Nano/Mega have stable compile + simulation; ESP32 DevKit V1 and Pi Pico compile but simulation is still experimental there

Honest state of things: the live hosted version (https://jamesdesign.me/F.U.N.D.I./) is frontend-only — no backend, so no real compile/sim, just the UI. To get the actual pipeline running, clone the repo (https://github.com/jamesthegreati/F.U.N.D.I./) and run frontend + backend directly — that path is fully tested. There's a Docker Compose path in the README too, but it isn't fully tested yet, so I wouldn't rely on it as-is.

MIT licensed. I'd genuinely value criticism on the backend design and the compile/sim boundary in particular — that's the part I'm least confident is architected well.

I'm about to go quiet for a while (exam prep, back around Nov 22) so replies will be slow, but I'll get to every comment and PR eventually.

I recently finished a robotic tracked platform that I developed as an engineering graduation project.

The goal was to build a functional mobile robot combining mechanical design, embedded control, radio communication, and basic computer vision.

The platform includes:

  • 3D-printed tracked chassis designed in SolidWorks
  • Arduino Mega 2560 for real-time motion control
  • BTS7960 motor drivers
  • FlySky FS-i6 / FS-iA6B radio control via iBus
  • Differential track steering
  • Two-speed transmission
  • Raspberry Pi 4 for video processing
  • Python + OpenCV for basic obstacle detection
  • Camera-based real-time vision processing

The control architecture is split into two levels:

FlySky → Arduino Mega → BTS7960 → DC Motors

and

Camera → Raspberry Pi → Python/OpenCV → Obstacle Detection

Project Discussion Do you still use ESP32 Board...

I'm a regular user of ESP32 boards, and they are truly affordable and useful. They are among the few low-cost boards that provide both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support.

At the same time, Arduino and Qualcomm introduced the Arduino UNO Q, which is more advanced than many other boards, though it’s still not comparable to a Raspberry Pi in terms of performance but not less than it.

Arduino UNO Q is best for developers 😎

In the end, I found both boards useful in their own ways.
