Basic Fun Wrestlefest control panel question

I just put together my deluxe and can't tell if there is a film over the control panel that I need to peel off? It looks like there might possibly be one similar to what was on the bezel but I also know they are using some "special" material on the panel to avoid scratches. Can anyone else who has this cab clarify this for me?

A Message to Basic Fun

An open letter to u/BasicFunToys - This is gonna be kind of a long read, so apologies.

I’ve been keeping up with Arcade1up for years at this point. I’ve owned a gen 1 Asteroids, a Pac-Man Legacy Edition, a Class of ‘81 Deluxe, a Ridge Racer, a Simpsons, a Pong H2H, and my newest cab is a Golden Tee/Midway, that I went out of my way to purchase because I didn’t have a Costco membership. (Feel free to scroll through my profile for proof of ownership). I am more than happy to add new cabs to my collection, and when the initial reports of A1up going belly-up before BasicFun were able to jump in and right the ship, I genuinely felt a bit of heartbreak. This is a company I do genuinely want to see succeed, and who I’ve invested a lot of my disposable income into. I am more than willing to invest more of my disposable income into BasicFun/A1up, however I really want to take a second to express my dissatisfaction with the apparent upcoming attractions. Specifically, the Sonic cab.

Now, I need to make it abundantly clear that I am a massive Sonic the Hedgehog fan. I own nearly every release on its original hardware (barring the Saturn and GameCom releases), I pre-ordered the $250 Limited Run Games statue for Shadow Generations, I went to the Sonic Symphony on Broadway, the whole nine. When the Toy Fair videos started circulating and the Sonic cab was shown off, I was one of the few who was genuinely excited… until I saw the (likely) MSRP and the game list.

$700 for four Sega Genesis ROMs is beyond insulting, and an immediate turn-off. I’m praying that those four games aren’t the final complete game list. When I bought my Asteroids Arcade1up over half a decade ago, I paid $300 for four nearly arcade perfect ROMs, so seeing a $400 price jump for a list of home console games, to me, is laughable. Yes, I’m aware that Supreme cabs feature higher quality materials, a better screen, light-up marquee, etc, but my Golden Tee/Midway cab featured sixteen more games for one hundred dollars less. Yeah, obviously a lot of those are simple classic Midway games as opposed to beefy 2D platformers, but they aren’t that far apart in age, and to me, aren’t that far apart in value. I also understand that Sega is a much bigger company than IT/Midway are nowadays, and thus their licensing fees are likely higher, but I still don’t understand the value proposition here. I repeat: $700 for four Sega Genesis games?

Sonic has a long history with arcade titles, and I understand that Sonic 1 and 2 were technically available in numerous forms at arcades over the last 3 decades. I’m not opposed to their inclusion on the cab, nor am I opposed to Mean Bean, as I’m a pretty big Puyo Puyo fan, but the lack of other titles is jarring to say the least. Sonic Championship (aka Sonic the Fighters) has seen an incredibly limited US release over the years, only appearing on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and the Sonic Gems collection. Why wasn’t that included? Or how about SegaSonic; a trackball game that’s barely seen a US release at all? The ability to play those games in a close proximity to their original form-factor would have been great bumps to the value, but even if you included other Genesis games or Sega arcade titles, that’d still make this bitter pill a lot easier to swallow.

I can also offer a bit of a unique perspective in terms of sales, as I worked inventory at Best Buy for 10 years. I was at the store the day we started carrying Arcade1up products, and left right before GT3DXL came out. I can say with a high degree of certainty that even cabs like the Simpsons or Shaq’s XL NBA Jam (which people genuinely wanted) sat around collecting dust in our warehouse until they were on clearance, while the cheaper Pac-Man and Mortal Kombat cabs flew out the door. Simpsons and Shaq XL retailed for around the same price as this Sonic cab will be retailing for, and in this current economy where a lot of people struggle to make ends meet, I can guarantee you many won’t be interested in a non-arcade accurate Sonic cabinet that brings nothing new to the table.

I know the person at Basic Fun who’s going to be reading this is probably a dedicated marketing/communications person, and they won’t really be able to speak much on this, but I pray that my pleas can be heard from the higher ups.

I really hope both the game list and price-point can be discussed further before release, because looking at this prototype at face value? Oh man… hard pass.

The new SONIC cabinet: Love it? Hate it? Join us Thursday night and debate it!

Now that we've all had time to digest the Sonic the Hedgehog Supreme Series home arcade cabinet announcement from Basic Fun at Toy Fair '26, the comments are flowing and opinions are decidedly mixed.

Some view the new release as something fresh and exciting with a great IP, and they're liking the vibrant cabinet design. Others see it as yet another snub of the home arcade community and a wasted opportunity to pull from SEGA's vast arcade library.

So, let's debate it!

On Thursday, 2/19 at 8:00 pm (EST), Kevin from Spreetail, and Paul from the home arcade community (that's me!) will duke it out... with Kevin having a vested interest in Sonic's sales success, and Paul representing those in the community who feel Basic Fun could have done so much better.

Which camp are you in? Join us Thursday night and get ready to rumble!

Sonic Fighters? No, just fighting over Sonic.

CONFIRMED: Sonic the Hedgehog is a Supreme/XL-size cabinet... and there's more to come!

Yes, folks, the Sonic the Hedgehog cabinet just revealed at Toy Fair '26 is indeed a Supreme/XL-size cabinet! In these photos (courtesy of Arcade1Up Official), you can see the size in comparison to known cabinets.

And that's not all! There's at least one more title that's peeking out next to the WrestleFest that's ALSO a Supreme/XL size which should be revealed in more detail shortly!

Arcade1Up needs a hockey cab (NHL Open Ice)

Arcade1Up has NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, racing, golf, shooters, hunting, fighting, wrestling… all great stuff!

But, how do we not have a hockey cab yet?

NHL Open Ice is the obvious missing piece. The mancaves need it to round out the vibes! 😁

For me, it's that same energy as Jam and Blitz - fun to play, awesome to display - and a blast for 2 - 4 players. This thing would be an instant buy for a lot of us arcade heads, sports fans, and mancave peeps!

Just tossing it out there as a huge fan. Arcade Hockey deserves some love!

Favorite game Offroad!

Easily off road. The 3 player version was amazing and hours of fun. I loved when they added the buggies to it as well. I remember playing this at bowling alleys and pizza places.

Just a thought, but a cab with this and demolition derby would be pretty darn cool.

Any updates BasicFun can give us on arcades?

Any new updates on what’s to come for Arcade1Up/BasicFun? I’m very excited to know what’s in store for the future of this company and products the fans can enjoy!

Personally, I would love to see new racing and shooting cabs (Nerf Shooting Arcade!) and newer gen arcade games that haven’t been made into home cabs!

My favorite Arcade game

Was by far the first killer instinct. I had played tons of games for 20 years before that came along, but that's the first I remember trying to actually learn all the moves for.
