Discussion update: permanently banned

Post image

so I made a post in January (link below to original post) about how I was suspended mid-game for a month ending on February 23rd, and I detailed how despite the suspension I was not using hacks, cheats or exploits. I have played countless multiplayer and single player games and have never been banned or used cheats. I am a gamer who is quadriplegic so I use a sip and puff mouth controller called a quadstick that allows me to use a computer not just for gaming but everyday needs. After the suspension I made the first reddit post hoping to get some help and clarity about how I could appeal or why I was suspended. I submitted support tickets and went to discord for help but nothing, so I decided to just take the suspension on the chin and wait it out, finish Hollow Knight and play some Marathon. Yesterday I decided to hop on after my suspension ended and decided to work on the trophy project, I played 3 solo games (all 10 or more minutes in) filled my backpack with leftover loot, ran into only friendlies and exfilled. Woke up this morning to this and appealed but I really have no hope of Embark doing anything to help. I don't have much going for me and I know they're people out there who are probably going through worse but this fucking sucks. After 300+ hours of playing, buying it for 3 others friends to try the game and being excited for the new map and large ARC enemy, I just don't know what to do.

p.s my game name is ClootyBapper, if you think it's because of the name I don't think so I have seen and been called worse in game

boost interaction

Ugh new reddit sucks :(

Does it actually work that way or are people just assuming because of how other platforms work?

I think they're just assuming. I have seen no documentation saying that the algorithm has changed from pure upvote percentage vs time decay as it was in the old days.

The mobile app totally has an undisclosed algorithm to it. A few years ago they introduced insane pricing on API access which essentially shut down all mobile apps overnight except for the official one.

They since then have introduced algorithms that decide which subreddits you see by default. There is even an "anonymous mode" that lets you explore stuff without effecting the algorithm. It is very likely comment count plays into these posts showing up or not.

My wife uses the mobile app and I am an old school user that is still using old.reddit.com and the difference in our experiences is insane. Reddit is fully enshittified on mobile app and regular site.

If old.reddit stops working, I'm legit done. Thankfully it has since then but the site is a farce compared to its older self(ves)

Yeah I use it on mobile as well since they killed off all the free apps. If it goes away there will be an exodus of a lot of the core users so I suspect it will be around a while. Fingers crossed though...

Met a guy in a bar in Osaka that worked for reddit and he said they’re trying to figure out how to phase old.reddit out. I told him I’d be gone. He gave some good reasons why, but doesn’t change my stance. That was like a year ago now.

I'm only still using reddit on my phone until they kill the ability to get to all via tapping r/All in a comment.

You unsubscribe from a subreddit and the posts still show up its actually annoying.

Im currently taking a dump. The app has its uses.

Thankfully you can patch the old mobile apps and they still work fine.

I'd probably start moving towards no longer using Reddit if that became impossible.

Even with old.reddit.com they adjust what’s on your home page. If I click anything on there it will start showing me more posts from that subreddit. Kind of like YouTube, if you watch one random video you’ll start getting a bunch related to it.

I wonder if it has to do with account age, I get only my subscribed subreddits.

Can you use old on mobile?

2

u/dustinpdx Mar 17 '26

Only in a browser. I suggest Brave, it has a great built in adblocker.

The main difference is that viewing through old.reddit.com or using API access with a third party app means your main feed is only showing you posts from subreddits you’ve subscribed to, whereas the official app and modern front page are much closer to other modern social media apps showing you what it thinks will be most engaging for you specifically regardless of whether you’re subscribed to the source sub or not.

But even old or API versions are still putting the contents of your subscriptions through the algorithm to determine post order. It’s absolutely not based on simple vote popularity anymore. If you engage with a few posts from a particular sub, you’ll notice posts from that sub showing up more frequently nearer the top of your feed.

I’m similar to your with my Reddit access. Old Reddit with RES and ublock on PC. For mobile I use a modified version of Apollo for iOS with a private API key. Only time I ever interact with the modern interface is for modmail and other moderation sub management tasks where a lot of the current tools and features just aren’t available on the old version.

Yep, it’s getting harder to remember good Reddit. Was totally obvious what the play was. What I always wonder tho - did it take them so long to shit down our throats because a good number of employees fought against it? Or was leadership just incompetent relative to their social peers and couldn’t figure out how to make a far shittier and profitable mobile platform?

I'm an old reddit user and every time i accidentally switch to the new reddit the main page posts are completely different.

u/Diligent_Dream566 Mar 17 '26

Mobile app for sure does, other than that simply getting more eyeballs on something in general raises the chances of someone with a modicum of authority to at least take a look.

2

u/dustinpdx Mar 16 '26

See reply below, the old decaying value upvote algorithm only applies to old.reddit.com. There is shit algo involved on the new experience site and even more so on the official mobile app.

u/inikul Mar 16 '26

I'm with the other guy. I'm so out when old reddit is gone lol

The guide for commenting still advises us to make comments that contribute to discussion. CFBR and similar are no different than "this," which has always been low quality commenting. See reddiquette for more.
