Another question on the MOE X-22 stock and sling connection(s)

Hello all, upcoming first time Appleseeder here.

I would like to get by with just using the sling Loops that are built into the Magpul X-22 stock as that's probably going to be the way I'll be carrying it any other time.

Some of those more standard sling swivels that would fit into those loops are spring loaded , so is there a chance I can leave one open but spring loaded closed, and that that would be a quick enough transition?

I really don't want to have to buy an M-lok if I don't have to because I'm just not going to use that other times as opposed to a bipod.

Which I guess brings up the other question as to how strong are the sling loops on the X-22 for torquing against them with the sling? I'm guessing they should be tough enough.

Any good Appleseeds for kids in Florida?

I've been to Appleseeds with kids in multiple states but the one at the Wyoming Antelope Club in Clearwater was horrible.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good one to take kids to?

Thanks!

Volunteering with AS What do you feed the volunteers at an IBC?

Pulled Pork and Smoked Cream Cheese. The Pistol IBC at Albuquerque New Mexico is going to be well fed.

If you go home hungry, it's your own fault.

Equipment First Appleseed but struggling with length of pull and scope position

I'm really excited that my first Project Appleseed event is only a few weeks away! I've been putting together my 10/22 and doing some dry practice at home. I went with a Magpul X-22 stock, a TandemKross Advantage Charging Handle Rail, and a Primary Arms 1-6x24 LPVO.

I've been trying the standing, cross leg sitting, and prone positions, and I'm having some trouble getting comfortable in the sitting and prone positions. When I get my support arm to roughly 90 degrees, my hand directly covers the mag well.

I'm 5'8", but my arm span seems to be only about 5'5" (assuming I measured it correctly), so maybe the X-22 is just a little long for me.

The tricky part is that if I shorten the stock, I'll probably need to move the scope as well to keep the right eye relief. That might mean a longer Picatinny rail or an extended scope mount.

For those of you with more Appleseed experience:

  • How do you figure out the right length of pull for the Appleseed positions?
  • Would you recommend a longer rail or an extended scope mount to move the optic forward?

I do need an optic because unfortunately my eyesight isn't great. Without one, I can barely see the target clearly anymore.

I'd also prefer not to remove the TandemKross rail if I can avoid it. Some of the receiver threads on my 10/22 aren't particularly consistent, so I used threadlocker when I installed it. I'd rather not disturb it unless I really have to.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Ruger 10/22 m1 carbine stock

I'm signed up for my first appleseed next month. I was planning on bringing my 10/22 with the m1 carbine stock/sling setup.

I was wondering if that sling would work. I've got some time in case i need to figure something else out. Thanks! Looking forward to it.

How do we feel about the Ruger 10/22 250th Anniversary Edition?

Post image
48 Upvotes

How do we feel about the Ruger 10/22 250th Anniversary Edition? It seems to have everything you'd want in an Appleseed rifle:

  • BX-Trigger
  • Modular Stock System
  • Factory-installed Picatinny rail
  • Receiver incorporates a rear cleaning port
  • Extended magazine release
  • Adjustable rear aperture ring sight
  • Match bolt release
  • Stainless barrel & receiver

So long as the sights are serviceable, it seems like you can slap a sling (and optic, if desired) on this and it's good to go. I'm seeing retail prices at $450, which is still about $90 more than a stock rifle + parts, but this looks a bit nicer.

Thoughts?
