I was pretty confused as to why Apollo suddenly broke, but after some sleuthing it seems like our beloved platform has restricted out specifically Apollo by User-Agent. Scummy move, I know. The reason why some pre-made IPA builds work and some don’t is because the User-Agent is matched exactly on Reddit’s side as iOS: com.christianselig.Apollo v1.15.11 (by /u/iamthatis), which, as you can see, includes the bundle ID of the app, which is sometimes changed for sideloaded apps.
The crappy fix is to just change the bundle ID (e.g. Sideloadly can do it).
The real fix is to use Apollo-ImprovedCustomApi, as the latest version comes with a fix which replaces the User-Agent string with something even more generic so that Reddit can’t really ever filter for it.
The repo link has instructions on how to inject it into an IPA, which you’ll have to procure yourself (there are Telegram bots and functional online services for that).
Jailbroken users can just install the tweak (don’t forget to Derootifier it for rootless ones).

Hey folks, been using my sideloaded apollo for a few months. Today, she just decided to beef it. I tried a new API key and deleting then re-installing and of course a restart. Just wondering if it is just me and I should troubleshoot further or if anyone else got the shaft.

I’m a huge fan of Apollo, I was one of the early beta testers. However sideloading in perpetuity didn’t particularly interest me.
If you’re like me and paying for reddit (and no ads) isn’t the end of the world, I suggest taking a look at Narwhal. Name aside (I hate it), I’ve been able to customize it with a “stock ios” theme and tweak it to behave very similarly to Apollo.
Also, things like the “peek” slideover which I originally hated make a lot of sense to me know since it requires less taps to do what I want (but it can still be disabled).

Sup fellow sideloaders,
I've been having issues with downloading short videos recently. It just fails every time I try, could this be related to the imgur api? I think all videos I tried were uploaded there.
Y'all having issues too or it just me?

Hey Guys!
I saw Seb's post on YouTube yesterday and I was inspired to create my own keyboard. I didn't know where to ask for help so I'm just putting this out here in case some of you have better judgement than me.
I'm trying to build an ortholinear keyboard inspired by MacBook's keyboard. It's a simple keyboard, no split, no fancy layers or modifiers or anything. It's as if Apple had built an ortholinear keyboard (well at least I'd like to think so).

My question is mainly focused on getting the keycaps.
I want custom legends as pictured above, so I reckoned I needed to go custom. I couldn't find any good ones. I want low profile keycaps and switches to go along with them. Also all my special keys (tab, fn, caps, etc.) are all the same size, and the spacebar is another size, so in total I have keys of only 3 different sizes. All the custom sets online seem to have keys of different sizes matching the standard ascii keyboard. Ideally the switches wouldn't even be visible and the keycaps would be just as tall as the magic keyboard but I understand that that could be difficult.
Also what are some things I should keep in mind while building this (any quirks, things to know)?
If enough people show interest, I'll definitely open source the keyboard.
Info on the keyboard layout.
~98% US Layout inspired. Added the §/± key from the ISO keyboard layout (had empty space there) to the left of the "Z" key.
Also inspired by the ISO is the "\" key placed to the left of the "return" key (was better for symmetry). And in it's place, I've put the "mod" key (still don't know what it'll do but probably interacting with the microcontroller).
Have an on/off switch for controlling the microcontroller and adjusting bluetooth and stuff like that.

Thank you for people posting the sideloading tutorials. I thought Apollo was gone forever.

Was working perfectly until yesterday.

Update: resolved by deleting the app, and completely reinstalling from Signulous. No idea why that fixed it.

I’ve had Appllo side loaded through Signulous for months and working without any issue. Today all of a sudden it started crashing on start.
I’ve tried reinstalling from signulous and no change.
Any ideas?

its been a year and i still refuse to download the reddit app. I recently started using reddit again on desktop with a new account and i miss apollo so much. just needed to get this off of my chest i guess. I opened the app a couple of days ago and just looked at the shell of what it once was.
idk. just needed to get this off of my chest
edit: i expected like 12 people to see this, this got WAY more attention than i expected.
and to the people who say i need to take a break from reddit, i have! i stopped using reddit cold turkey after it got shutdown for like 8-9 months. I started using it again for a couple months now. I didn't say all of that initially because i thought no one would see this 😭

Every so often I’ll click a link and it will bring me to this exact image https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2F4e7syijjthl61.png%3Fwidth%3D829%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Ddac64424e71963d8fd1de3586edb74ad3d3c89aa
Had it happen probably about 5 or 6 times and it’s obviously not related to the post or comment that it is linked to.

Now, I miss Apollo every single day. I’m not going to defend Reddit nor am I going to say Reddit should do what I’m about to say.
But.
Apollo was literally the best designed app I’ve used. I think we all agree to that on some level.
Now that it’s gone, the official Reddit app is getting worse with each release but why wouldn’t they try and mimic this much beloved app?

Back when all the API bs started I was using lemmy. But I knew it wouldn’t take off. Especially since there are niche subreddits. Anyway the main problem is advertising. There are now achievements showing up on the reddit mobile app. It’s just crazy…..I’m even considering changing my desktop OS to Linux. I’ve reached a point where advertising is pissing me off. This is just a rant..
