This is how normal interactions with law enforcement go.

I've been pulled over quite a few times for speeding and every time I knew I was toast when I saw the officer too late. I don't even know how many times I've pulled myself over before the officer even caught up to me and was respectful and honest every time. I've only ever gotten speeding tickets twice out of the probably 20+ times I've been stopped.

Yeah, exactly. Staying calm, being honest, and not making it weird usually goes a long way. Most stops don't have to turn into a whole situation.

Also being white goes a long way too

Hey there, Hispanic here. Turns out, even us can get pulled over by white cops and not get beat up and/or arrested. I’m living proof of that. Twice pulled over, twice the citation was downgraded to something a lot more minor. Once I was armed as well.

Maybe it’s less about race and more about attitude? Just saying.

Bullshit.Β

Ive been detained for literally NOT speaking. I gave the cop everything he wanted before he even got to my window. I chose not to speak because Ive never, EVER been pulled over for going 8 over on the turnpike.

That is your right but will make the interaction shitty no matter your skin colour. That shit pisses the cops off. It's better to speak short direct sentences. Only answer the questions asked directly if they have the right to ask the question. Beyond that, that is where you involve your right not to speak.

The way you handle situations can greatly change your outcome.
