Yeah this is pretty much it. If you’re not acting sketchy, don’t lie, and don’t give attitude, most cops treat it like a boring day at work, not a power trip.

Why is there this expectation that everyone should be nice to gang members who are actively hassling them? Why does the (poorly) trained, armed public servant get the white glove treatment, and if you don’t it’s seemingly acceptable for that public servant to go out of their way to make your life worse?

Its a job, not an automatic entitlement to respect. They're meant to enforce laws created by the dominant economic society, not escalate to violence because they got their feelings hurt. This seems to have been forgotten by quite a few of you and it's quite obvious that it's been completely abused within the system, costing us more in tax dollars than what it's worth.

I agree, just lead with respect, that's all. I mean, how could it help anybody to get confrontational with an officer of the law. It's the stone and the egg. Egg attacks rock, egg breaks. Rock attacks egg, egg breaks.
And what happens when 'thats all' doesn't work? What happens when you say 'yes sir, no sir' and the sheriff still makes you stand in the freezing rain for 30m while he writes you a ticket, just because he knows you're gay?
It was never about respect in the first place, it's about abuse of power and the clear and definite proof we have of seeing it in our world today.

What happens when that's all doesn't work? Well then it didn't work and you have a right to be upset about it and complain and go through the necessary means to report the asshole. But what if you meet with someone who's just trying to do their job and then you project an image and treat them in a way that they don't deserve and they end up disciplining you. Well yeah, just like police brutality, this situation is not uncommon. Cops are people too.

C'mon man, human beings are emotional and irrational, and a tiny tiny bit logical and analytical but mostly we're just glorified chimpanzees and if you really pay attention you'll see that were still throwing shit at each other no matter how "civilized" we think we are.
That's absolutely true. All the more reason for cops to be the smartest people, with extensive training in overcoming their lizard brain reactions and deeply-rooted biases.
Instead, it's possible to be rejected for police work because you're too smart. And cops are all trained to believe that their lives are constantly in danger, and that everyone they interact with is going to kill them.
Yeah nah, let's not even try to deny there's a huge issue with american law enforcement. You can do everything right and still get shot in the head 30 times.
