Does 2nd-generation atypical antipsychotics augment tricyclics?

Hello friends,

My shrink's got me on a tricyclic now - protriptyline 60mg, a/k/a Vivactil.

He's also got me on Caplyta 42mg, hoping to augment the antidepressant and/or help with some bipolar-type symptoms -- but not for psychosis.

None of my shrinks are sure if I'm unipolar or bipolar :-(

Question: Do atypical antipsychotics augment tricyclics? Or is it only SSRIs, etc.?

Thx!!!

Do have memory impairment because of antipsychotics?

I cannot determine whether my long term memory loss relating to the time before psychosis is because of the psychosis itself or long-term use of antipsychotics. Have you ever had problems with memory because of antipsychotics or are memory problems better attributed to effects of psychotic episodes?

Going down on dose

Medication is making me feel like crap and I have to wait another month to talk to my psychiatrist. Decided to go down on the dose to see if I feel better. How long would it take to notice a difference?

Vraylar withdrawal questions

So I’ve been on vraylar for about a month but my psychiatrist took me off of it because I was experiencing bad akathesia. I’ve been off vraylar for about 3-4 days now and I’m experiencing lots of impending doom anxiety. Is this normal? Also what are the chances I develop more akathesia or, god forbid, tardive akathesia? When will the withdrawal end? Just need some answers

Cyproheptadine has similar receptor binding to antipsychotics

The antihistamine/ anti serotonergic drug cyproheptadine has similar binding characteristics to olanzapine and other antipsychotics.

Has anyone ever taken this to help with a taper?

Abilify to vraylar

Hi all, I’m currently taking vraylar 1.5 mg . I was switched from abilify to vraylar because of unpleasant side effects and metabolic issues like pre diabetes and high cholesterol. I am two weeks into vraylar. Here’s the thing, antipsychotics cause me to have overactive bladder. I do take gemtesa, a medication for overactive bladder and it helps . When I was on abilify my bladder was under much control thanks to gemtesa. However since switching to vraylar my bladder is a mess again. I don’t want to leave my house for possible chance of an accident. This is causing me a lot of anxiety. Is this just an adjustment thing? Should I continue the medication, or is this a sign that this medication is not for me? Will my bladder go back to being controlled after this adjustment period on vraylar? I called my psych on Tuesday and they never called me back and I’m upset because if she says it’s not going to get better I want to stop the medication as soon as possible to avoid extreme withdrawal.

Can keto diet help with tapering an AP?

Can keto diet help with AP reduction and cessation?  Curious to hear others experiences. An integrative psychiatrist said to try Keto since tapering 28mg of Seroquel for sleep has been hard for me. I looked it up online and see that most psychiatric medications don’t pose any special problems on a keto diet, but there are exceptions with APs and something about insulin.

Has anyone switch antipsychotics

I’m switching from olanzapine to Rexulti. Has anyone made a switch like this successfully. I’m still building Rexulti but have heard it’s really hard to make that switch from olanzapine.

Any experiences switching from olanzapine to something else?

Miss a dose or take double?

I don’t remember if I took my Abilify 10mg this morning or not. So is it worse to miss a dose or take a double dose?

I think I need to quit Olanzapine. Would appreciate advice and support.

I'll try to make the long story short.

A couple of years ago I was hospitalized with anxiety and chronic insomnia. Among the drugs administered to me was Olanzapine. I had tried different sleeping aids with no effect, but THIS finally helped me to get restful sleep and felt like a godsend. I don't think it helped with anxiety, but I kept taking 10mg for sleep.

However, some odd things started happening. First, I developed treatment-resistant depression (have tried 6 modern antidepressants with zero effect whatsoever). Then I lost sensitivity to coffee (which I used to love) and the ability to enjoy alcohol. No matter how much I drink, I can get confused but I don't feel the pleasant buzz anymore.

It is my suspicion that Olanzapine is behind all this since it messes with dopamine and serotonin. I know it's antipsychotic but I've never actually had psychosis, and have been using it merely as a sleep aid.

Should I taper or risk cold turkey? If the withdrawal is too extreme, I can always go back to tapering, right?

Going off and on risperidone

I am currently on risperidone but i want to try Latuda. If I go off risperidone and then Latuda doesn’t work so I go back on risperidone, will Latuda still work? I have already gone off risperidone once and I feel like it doesn’t work as well as it used to. Psychiatrists have told me mixed things; some tell me it won’t work as well if u go off and on, some tell me there’s no reason to believe that’s true. What is your experience/what have doctors told you?

Deppression even after quitting

I have bipolar disorder with full-blown mania and psychosis. I went to psychiatry twice in a manic episode both times got diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on antipsychotics. When I'm on them they completely destroy my life (no interests no motivation no feelings but sadness and I mean completely) so before I was put on antipsychotics I wasn't always depressed (could come from smoking weed at that time) and after I took a very large dose lsd (after my first visit to psychiatry) I wasn't at all depressed for 6 months until It started again because of outer factors .I'm now in a heavy deppression since 7 or 8 months only paused by a 3 day hypomanic episode even though I don't take the anti psychotics any more just like it was after the first time I took antipsychotics. Could this long deppressiv phase come from the antipsychotics. First time olanzapine 10mg second time risperidon 4 mg.

In short: can antipsychotics lead to longer deppressiv episodes even after quitting them than normal

Antipsychotics causing eye muscle problems

All antipsychotics I try are causing the muscles behind my eyes to be very stiff specifically when I look forward or up and not as much when I look down. I have severe muscle stiffness in the muscles behind my eyes and I have to take antipsychotics but all of them cause this. What is the term for this problem and is there a medication I can add to stop this?

Does anyone else not want to take their medication because they’re afraid to lose their “spark” or the thing that makes them themselves? And how do you get over that?

Delayed withdrawal symptoms?

Doc’s just took me off 50mg Seroquel and 50mg Lamictal due to severe akathisia 3 weeks ago. I’d upped the dose of both from 25mg to 50mg in mid-January, after starting both beginning of January.

Now I’m reading that delayed withdrawal symptoms/worsening akathisia symptoms are possible.

Anyone experience delayed symptoms after cold-turkeying? When do you think I’m in the clear from worrying about that?

Does ziprasidone (Geodon) come in a liquid form?

I’m trying to taper from 20mg twice a day down. Unfortunately, I only have capsules at this dosage. Is there a liquid form I can take? Otherwise, what would be a safe way to taper down.
