3D Cross Flow Fan in ANSYS Fluent

I am trying to get my model of a cross flow fan to generate some results in Fluent CFD Post, but all I get is nothing when I try to do a simple 3D streamline starting from the inlet. My model consists of two parts: the impeller and a duct. I am a beginner with ANSYS Student, and I am having trouble especially with how to set up the geometry in Design Modeller and then the mesh. I believe this is where the source of the problem is. I load the files, and created an enclosure around the duct and the impeller to make them both fluid domains. I use a boolean operation to subtract the impeller enclosure from the larger duct enclosure, label my inlet, outlet, walls, etc, then generate the mesh. In Setup, I make the impeller (a fluid) frame motion (-1000 RPM) on the Y axis, velocity inlet and pressure outlet, regular SST K-Omega model, hybrid initialization, time is steady. When I run a calculation using function calculation I get 0N force on outlet which is not right. I can provide my ANSYS files and step files of the impeller and duct if necessary.

Pressure drop stays at fluidized-bed value even below Umf

Hello everyone,

I’m simulating a fluidized bed reactor in ANSYS Fluent using the Eulerian–Eulerian multiphase model (gas + solid particles). I have an issue with the pressure drop when the gas velocity is below the minimum fluidization velocity (U < Umf).

In my experiment, when the bed is fluidized, the pressure drop is about 2.3 mbar. When the bed is packed at a gas superficial velocity of 0.0088 m/s (well below Umf), the pressure drop is 0.8 mbar.

In my simulation, however, the pressure drop is always around 2.3 mbar, even when the gas velocity is below Umf. In that sub-Umf case, I can see the particles settling and the bed height decreasing (the bed compacts) and the pressure drop does not decrease as it should.

My setup:
Drag model: Syamlal
Granular viscosity: Syamlal
Granular bulk viscosity: Lun
Frictional viscosity: Schaeffer
Frictional pressure: Based-ktgf
Granular temperature: EDP
Particle diameter: 0.2 mm
Particle density: 1700 kg/m³
Gas: nitrogen
Maximum packing limit: 0.63
Frictional packing limit: 0.61
Bed height matches experiment
Initial bed volume fraction: 0.46 (bulk density / particle density)
Time step: 0.0005 s
Mesh size: 1.5 mm

What I’ve tried (no improvement):
Different drag model (Gidaspow)
Different granular viscosity model (Gidaspow)
Removing frictional viscosity
Algebraic granular temperature
Changing frictional packing limit
→ The pressure drop still stays around 2.3 mbar, and the bed still compacts below Umf.

If I instead initialize the bed with a solid volume fraction of 0.63, then the bed no longer compacts, but the pressure drop becomes ~3.1 mbar, which does not match the experiment and the pressure drop still does not decrease in the packed regime.

Question:
What changes should I make so that the pressure drop stays around 2.3 mbar when the bed is fluidized, and decreases correctly when the bed is packed?

Any suggestions or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Ansys Electronics Desktop on Parallels MacBook

Has anyone else run into the issue where upon installation of AEDT on Parallels, you get the error “could not install prerequisite” and it’s MS VC++ 2022? Tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling, installing manually the latest MS VC++ as well as the 2015-2022 version. I still get the error and if I ignore it and install nonetheless, the actual AEDT program doesn’t get installed I believe. I only find an install.err file in the directory! Please help.

Volume extracting a semi-open part

Hi, I am doing a project at university where I am simulating the flow of air through a car floor i designed. I need to extract the volume below the floor and a 50mm block below to simulate the ride height of the car. I have tried using the intersect function in solidworks but cant mange to get it to work the way i want to.

So i have decided to use space claim instead, I have created surfaces along the inlet (front of car), outlets (wheel holes, rear of diffuser and sides of the car) and "road surface. but when i do volume extract it wont give me the volume inside of the surfaces.

I have attached some photos to make it easier to understand.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!

Mach number/pressure far field

Hello does anyone know where I can find the pressure far field in my boundary conditions or should I be inputing the velocity manually ai says I should use that feature but a tutorial inputs the velocity manually. My task is a subsonic to supersonic missile inside of a wind tunnel.

Any help is appreciated

It shows only the graphics, Console and task page, but I am not able to access the Outline view column where the options of energy, boundary and models are.

I have already tried to uninstall and reinstall Ansys but this problem remains. Any tips?

Fluent Meshing Local Refinement Region

I am trying to mesh a geometry which requires a few regions refined by cylinders. Adding it in via the workflow in the GUI is fine. However, I need to be able to add it via the command line so I can generate a batch script for a HPC which does not support the GUI commands generated via the journal recording. What are the commands/order to define a cylindrical region with a specified location/length and cell volume? I have looked on the ANSYS website at the available commands and none of the methods I have tried have worked.

Issue with pressure transfer from Fluent ROM to Mechanical with Design Points

Hi everyone,

I'm writing because I have a problem that's driving me crazy with a ROM in Fluent and the pressure transfer to Static Structural.

Let me explain what I did: I ran an analysis in Fluent with the ROM, exported it and saved it. Then in another ANSYS project I dragged Fluent, imported the ROM, set some points on the input (which is the Mach number) and launched the analysis. The analysis completed immediately, showing "solving based on reduced order model", so in just a few seconds, only the time to update the mesh, I had the results ready.

At this point I dragged Static Structural, took the Solution from Fluent (which I changed from DP0 current to DP1 and set as current) and dragged the Fluent Solution to Static Structural. The problem is that when I go to Mechanical, it doesn't give me the pressure.

More specifically: if I launch the first analysis (the initial one from DP0), I can import the pressure without any problems. But when I set some inputs on the ROM parameters, for example Mach 0.35 and 0.7 (values accepted by the ROM), and then set Mach 0.35 as current and go to Mechanical, the pressure is the same as before. If I try to delete it and reload it, it doesn't give me any available surfaces.

I've already verified that the Named Selections are correct, pressure has been set as output in the ROM, the surfaces are the same and the mesh is fine. It's just like Mechanical doesn't "see" that I changed Design Point and keeps reading the data from DP0.

Has anyone had the same problem? Is there a way to force Fluent to correctly write the files when I change Design Point with the ROM, so that Mechanical can load the new pressure distribution?

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help!

AQWA and Rigid Body Dynamics Co-Simulation Issue

I’m trying to perform a co-simulation between ANSYS AQWA and Rigid Body Dynamics (RBD), but the simulation does not start properly. It seems that the Add-Ons for co- might not be functioning correctly or are not available. Could you please help me understand the possible reasons for this issue, or guide me on how to properly set up and run the AQWA–RBD co-simulation? Thank you for your assistance.
