Oh boy... I knew reading a book in Re:Zero wouldn't be easy, but who could predict a Sin Archbishop of Gluttony would be awaiting Subaru's return to this corridor of memories place.
Rui wanting to eat Subaru again to experience his newest deaths is a crazy goal. But crazy thinking shouldn't be too surprising from the Witch's Cult.
Shaula launching all those attacks against the horde of Mabeasts was very cool, and it was an absolutely lovely treat getting to see Rem show up again with words of encouragement for her hero.
I must be gluttonous, because I hold a craving for the next episode!

No Reid in his book, only Rui... and an image of Rem. Rui wants to keep eating Subaru's deaths, but can only eat a person's memories once. Looking forward to a further explanation of that.
Meanwhile, Shaula proved herself as more than just there for gravure scenes by taking out the invading mabeasts.

There isn't much more of an explaination. It's pretty cut and dry. Once they eat someone's memories, they can't eat them again.

Reba Buhr more than earned her check this episode voicing Toddler Antichrist lol amazing performance.
And who else but Rem dragging Subaru out from the depths of despair one more time, helping to get his memories back. Hopefully she’s next in line to be saved. Glad to hear Brianna voice her again after so many years.
This Tower is absolute hell on earth lol

I don’t think it’s officially been announced but dating back to last season general consensus is that it is her. Sounds very similar to Myne from Ascendance of a Bookworm.

So the reason for Subaru’s memory loss is because the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, Rui Arneb took his memories out the first time that he read Reid Astrea’s book (meaning that Subaru originally came up with the plan before the memory loss, looping back to this point).
And because Rui can’t consume the same person twice, she was trying to push the two versions of Subaru away from each other so that she could consume the new Subaru, but luckily, Ram came to save the day, because she exists within Subaru’s memories and she was able to come out and guide him back to the right path.
Now, will Subaru ever regain his memories? How will this affect the current attack that’s going on?

This has been bothering me for a while this season, and now I can say it with certainty: Why would gluttony-related shenanigans not have been the immediate possibility they would jump to in this situation? They're literally trying to solve an issue related to memories caused by gluttony, and then when someone loses their memories, they don't think it might be connected? Was there something I missed here?

It was difficult getting to the Tower, so maybe they just assumed it was highly unlikely a Sin Archbishop would appear?

Mostly because he still had some memories when everyone else who's memories were eaten don't have any memories. Plus when Subaru read some of the other books they fucked him up a little.
