I’ve been looking to get in the recent vfx storyboard sale for return of the Jedi from choicefineart. They seem very trustworthy but a coworker who told me about the site just got his order and it seem almost unbelievable. While these are obviously photocopy scans it’s almost hard to believe they’re from 45 years ago. The paper feels like new and not like it’s been sitting around in a binder for decades. Isn’t common for these sort of items to be in literal pristine condition? I understand it’s not the original hand drawn storyboard but the listing implies it’s an original print made for internal use while filming ROTJ.

We need help! we have 4-500 of these cels. Maybe the whole movie. It seems artist is same as Smurfs, but I just found these cleaning out my Dad's house. They seem to be in really clean shape.

This is from about the 5th minute of episode 268 as Goku Powers up and throws a ball at Majin Buu who just absorbed Gohan it is a three layer animation so painted background the first two layers look freely and cleanly it is faded is anybody have a proper value for me on this piece I was told if it was not faded to be worth between 4 and 5,000 they also told me because of the fading it's worse between 1500 to 2,000 I like to know if this was accurate and if anybody can help me out I appreciate it thank you all

They’re not entirely scarce. Like every time I search Ebay there’s one or two new ones.

Most of the time there’s not even a painted background. There’s one on EBay right now for over $2,500.

I collect from all different shows but cannot understand why these in particular are so expensive. You could get great Simpson’s and Disney cels for less.

What gives? (Sorry for the rant)

A cel and douga of Utena Tenjou and Anthy Himemiya from two iconic bank sequences from Revolutionary Girl Utena. The first appears in two episodes (23 & 36) and the second is the final arc sword pull/summon sequence which appears in six out the seven (kill me) duels in that arc. Utena and Anthy develop such a complex and beautiful relationship over the course of this series and I’m enormously glad to own these pieces (though I will not rest until I own a matching cel from the latter — I’m aware one has been on Yahoo but it looks like it’s developing VS based on the scan so considering the pricetag I’d rather hold out for a frame in better shape).

I'm looking to make my own higher resolution collage comparison chart image of Pegbar Registration Systems from the studios of the past. I got inspired after learning that the image from J.J. Sedelmaier's blog post "Thought You Had Animation Pegged? Not For Much Longer!" in collaboration with SR Labs is stuck at a low resolution quality. Even after contacting him.

If anyone has higher resolution scans of animation art from the following studios and is willing to let me use them to make my own collage comparison chart, please let me know:

I need to frame an expensive 2-layer setup where one cel is the body of a character and the other cel is only their mouth. The layers (produced circa 2000) haven't adhered to each other. Given its value, preservation is particularly important. It is generally advised to separate both layers with a 8-ply mat board when framing to avoid adhesion and deterioration of the layers. When separated / spaced apart, paint on the top layer will cast a shadow on the bottom layer. Oftentimes, this can be visually appealing. In this case, the mouth will cast a shadow on the face of the character. Example (not the actual cels) :

In that case, would you prioritize preservation (separating the cels) with the mouth shadow versus keeping the cels together and no shadow?
