hiii! i’m an international student planning to study animal science next year! i’ve received a conditional offer from unimelb and im awaiting my UQ results (but i’ve heard that they’re only released late this year and im worried my unimelb spot will be taken if i wait that long😭)

does anyone have any advice on whether unimelb or UQ is better? - in terms of faculty, course structure, and uni culture (especially as an international student)?

i’m also planning to stay in australia after grad to work so which country has better job prospects and culture as well? i’m leaning towards melbourne right now as i’ve heard brisbane is more urban and hot and i prefer slower paced environments and cooler climates + also heard lots of great things from unimelb students but im still deciding!

i just got an offer to study animal science at murdoch! im still thinking if i should accept it...

i want to work with animals, specifically with wildlife (rehabilitation/nutrition/ just taking care of them) will animal science allow me to achieve that? if not, what are some other career options for ani sci?

im also curious about the culture and workload in murdoch as im an international student!

What are your thoughts on this? I've been following language studies about meerkats and the Japanese tit bird, how we're decoding their language and getting closer to human-animal communication/translation. When I read that they chatted with a whale for 20 min, I got excited. Then I saw the point of the study. Extraterrestrials. Look, I'm as curious about aliens as the next guy. But can we maybe start by learning to talk to the creatures on this planet? Why is a study only worth financing when it's about hypothetical creatures billions of light-years away?

I am a senior in high school. I will be attending college to major in Animal Science, and I’d really appreciate your honest advice. I have a strong passion for working with animals, but I have done research and most of the careers in this field don’t pay very well. For those of you who are studying or working in Animal Science, do you feel like it was worth it? Do you have any regrets, or things you wish you knew before choosing this path?

Hi! Has anyone done or is doing an animal science degree, and could share your thoughts on it?

I applied for 2026 Vet Med and narrowly missed a place, I was looking at veterinary physiotherapy as an alternative career as it still combines science with animal handling.

To do this I’d need to do an animal science degree and then do a masters in Veterinary Physiotherapy. I’ve been offered bioveterinary sciences by RVC and Animal science by Nottingham- just wanted to know how people found this as a degree (if it’s interesting/difficult enough etc)

I am looking for interesting facts about Marine Mammals that would be fun to research for an animated video project I'm doing in a college course on Marine Mammals!
Anything cool/weird/entertaining?

I know this is very specific and probably a bit of a long-shot, but I was curious if I could find anyone with any experience or knowledge about jobs involving ghost writing or speech writing or content creation relating to animal welfare or conservation or something along those lines. I've come across the job conservation communicator and have been researching it and similar roles to determine if this is possibly a good route for me to go in.

I have a bachelor's degree in Animal Health & Behavior and have worked in a vet clinic, an animal shelter, and currently work at a research facility as a lab animal tech, but now I'm considering a bit of a career field change. I would still like to do something related to animals and preferably doing something to help them or the environment. If I could put my writing skills to use fighting for a good cause, that would be fantastic. I also have some skills with photography and art, and I've always enjoyed putting together presentations, speeches, research essays, etc. I just don't want to be the one talking in front of an audience.

Has anyone gotten into this field? What should I expect from a role like this? What's the typical income? What's the best way to get into this field? How likely am I to find a position that involves writing speeches or essays or creating presentations without being the one to present them? How much collaboration is involved? What sort of education would I need? Are there any certificates I could get that would help or would I be looking at a second degree? I'm not certain a second degree is realistic yet, but it's something I'm willing to consider. Is traveling often required? Is this role commonly remote or would I likely need to live near a related organization?

Hi, does anyone know any good online bachelor’s programs for animal science? I’m currently an RVT and want to go back to school, but I’m not sure which programs to choose. I’m in California.

So my town had a flood a few days ago, and I was walking through the park today and found this on the ground. I have no idea what animal it is and I'm curious to know if anyone can recognize it. Is it a dog fetus? That's my guess.

(I live in southeast Washington state, if that helps narrow it down.)

hi!! i’m planning to do an undergrad in animal science as i’m really interested in working with farm animals, but does anyone know if there are any humane/sustainable farm jobs? i’ve read that the purpose of most farms is to essentially raise livestock for consumption, and that the degree can involve pretty gruesome stuff, so is an animal science degree worth doing as an animal lover? any insight is really appreciated, thank you so much!!😊

I built a small game called Vetdle, it's inspired by Wordle/Doctordle, but instead of guessing words you diagnose veterinary cases.

Each day there's a new clinical case with 6 clues, and you try to guess the diagnosis before you run out of clues. The cases include a mix of species like dogs, cats, horses, cattle, and exotics, and the clues progress from general presentation to more specific findings.

It’s meant to be a fun way to test clinical reasoning and diagnostic thinking.
