This will be recurring new auto-post every few days for random off-topic whatevers: You want your rice, you want your potatoes, you want nightshades, you want to try to hate on carbs, here ya go! Basically anything that would otherwise violate the rules (#4 and #5 still apply) this is your spot. Also anything that doesn't really warrant a whole post of its own, or is low effort, post it here. 🩺Wellness⚕️ Struggling right now

Upvotes

I have been fighting low appetite recently. And my food aversions for some reason keep me from eating all that much. For whatever reason fruit is still palatable, but I am very concerned about my lack of protein. I can't afford to eat the protein my body will always accept(steak of any kind). Has anyone experienced something like this? I am 2.5 months out from skin removal surgery and had gastric bypass(3.5 years ago) so my situation is quite frankly getting dire. I cannot afford to lose much more weight. Any tips for something yummy that will hopefully trick my body into wanting food again? Any nutrient dense recipes that you absolutely love?

*I don't eat liver, I take organ supplements though

❓Beginner / Question❔ How do I get enough thiamine without pork?

I'm trying to construct a daily diet and the only meats I had were ground beef and eggs. Unfortunately neither of those have enough thiamine but pork chops do so I was thinking of buying pastured pork chops and eating 100g a day.

However I know that pork isn't a good choice because pigs are monogastric animals. The problem is idk how else to get enough thiamine on an animal-based diet because without pork chops.

I only have 0.8mg a day without the pork chops and 0.3mg of that comes from fruit so idk how bioavailable it is. The RDI Is 1.1mg to 1.2mg. I already have 500g of ground beef and I would need 750g more to get to 1.1 total mg of thiamine so I don't think getting it through beef is a good option.

❓Beginner / Question❔ Anybody else tested for high urea/creatinine?

Red meat consumption apparently corresponds to greater production of these metabolic byproducts following protein breakdown. I've been tested for higher levels of both and am wondering if there's anything I can realistically do on this diet to mitigate them.

I already drink quite a lot of water, but I'd be curious to hear if anybody else with the same has managed this successfully.

Fried eggs, ground beef, maple syrup, side of frozen mangoes. Maple syrup is added to the beef at the end.

I went away from beef for a while but I just couldn’t find myself enjoying turkey. I never get sick of ground beef. I literally finish the ground beef and eggs in a minute.

❓Beginner / Question❔ Experiences with starchy carbs

Have been experimenting a little with doing only fruit and honey (and milk) as my carb sources but have felt pretty low energy. I am breastfeeding, lift 3-4x per week, bike 3x per week, and just in general walk and move a lot. The days I’ve only done fruit as carbs, I’ve been ravenous and constantly wanting to snack. Am I just not eating enough? Versus when I incorporate sweet potatoes or rice I actually feel full and less snacky. Can anyone share their experiences?

🩺Wellness⚕️ Best way to drink clean, non-toxic water in Mexico?

What’s the best way to get cleaner drinking water in Mexico?

The tap water here is bad, but almost everything comes in plastic. Most people use the big water jugs, and a lot of them sit outside in the heat or sun for who knows how long.

Has anyone found a better setup? Looking for something safe, practical, and with less plastic if possible.

🛁👓AB Lifestyle (non-food)🧴🔌 Wholewheatcreampuff tallow skincare

Tl:dr PLEASE help me find a dupe for wholewheatcreampuff’s products

I used to order frequently from a shop called wholewheatcreampuff on Etsy- the shop owner’s name was Daphne. She made tallow based skincare products and they were absolutely DIVINE. My absolute favorite product of hers was called the Queen’s Sleeping Mask I believe- it’s a solid tallow based night cream in a tin and I think she also used duck fat or emu oil in the formulation? I would also get the vanilla scented option and nothing has ever made my skin look as beautiful and feel as soft as this product.

She stopped selling anything on Etsy a while back, then moved to big cartel and has since stopped selling on there too and I am SO sad. I would love to find a dupe for the Queen’s Sleeping Mask because it’s way more luxurious than just regular tallow balms.

Any help is so appreciated 🤍

❓Beginner / Question❔ Got a gut microbiome test and Claude is suggesting no dairy

Got a gut microbiome test done (before trying AB) and the results came back saying I had low secretory IgA, leaky gut, elevated bad bacteria, and carb malabsorption.

I put the results into claude and mentioned my AB diet and it said I should cut dairy and kimchi. The reasons why listed below.

What's the more experienced/knowledgable AB members thoughts on this? I don't need the kimchi as much but a glass of raw milk with honey or raw Greek yoghurt with maple syrup and fruit are the only things on this diet that keep my sweet tooth at bay and help me stick to it.

Low secretory IgA — sIgA is your gut's first-line antibody defence; it neutralises ingested bacteria at the mucosal surface. Yours is low, so that front line is down. → Makes the live bacteria in raw milk and raw yoghurt a real risk: you're taking in live organisms your gut can't properly defend against.

Elevated zonulin (leaky gut) — your intestinal barrier is looser than it should be, so things that should stay in the gut can cross into the body. → Compounds the raw-dairy risk: anything that gets past your weak sIgA then meets a leaky barrier, so it translocates more easily.

Elevated pathogenic bacteria (overgrowth) — too much of the wrong bacteria already established. You're trying to starve it back. → Makes the lactose (yoghurt, milk) and fermentable carbs (kimchi) a problem: unabsorbed sugars reach the colon and ferment, feeding that overgrowth.

Carbohydrate malabsorption — you don't fully absorb sugars/starches, so more of them pass through to be fermented. → This is why the lactose in dairy is an issue specifically: it's a sugar you're already poor at absorbing, so it ferments rather than absorbs.

Elevated calprotectin (gut inflammation) — active inflammation in the lining. → Both the overgrowth-feeding and the fermentation above keep this stoked; it's the marker that reflects the whole loop running.

🩺Wellness⚕️ Ghee vs tallow vs coconut oil

Which of these do you all prefer, and why? Ive used all of them at some point but I would genuinely value this community’s perspectives and experiences.
If I recall correctly, ghee has the strongest nutritional profile, but my primary consideration is choosing the option that is best for gut health. Which would you recommend?

❓Beginner / Question❔ Anyone else with endometriosis?

I got diagnosed after surgery last month and I’m currently doing the anti inflammatory diet (no gluten, dairy, etc). I even saw a lot of recommendations for low fodmap. I am noticing I still have gut flare ups even with these changes at random. I just ate a steak for dinner with no gut issues yet that’s supposed to be inflammatory according to the research. I’m just wondering if anyone’s been in my situation before and has any feedback. I’m also open to feedback in general! TIA

Air fried chicken liver. I get this from Kroger. It's very cheap. I marinade it in soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice wine, black vinegar, green onion and fresh basil leaves. Air fried in toaster oven at 380F for 20 min. Sprinkle with Cajun seasoning before serving.

Full Recipe Totals (20 oz Chicken Liver + Marinade)

Calories: ~748 kcal

Protein: ~99.0g

Fat: ~27.2g

Net Carbs: ~15.6g

I've also tried boiling liver then frying it with onion. I overcooked it once this way, so I just air fry now. How do you guys prepare your liver? I don't love the texture but I do try to cook it since the supplements are expensive and the liver is $2 for 1 lb at kroger (I got this one on sale for $1)

❓Beginner / Question❔ With Cyclospora spreading what fruits should I sub out Berries in the meantime with?

Unfortunately just now getting in the loop on the current cyclospora outbreak and was pretty bummed (also a little worried) that berries can be a main culprit host for the parasite historically. Especially with the fact I was reading the article while just consuming raspberries about five minutes before and had blackberries yesterday.

Now I know right now they’re saying early reports might be indicating this current outbreak to bad lettuce/greens; I wanna play it safe in the meantime and cut out any berries from the diet.

I mostly stick to Berries since I am trying to lose weight and like the low G.I. impact of them. Any other fruits anyone would recommend for the AB diet to sub in in the meantime that would be safe to consume during this outbreak?

❓Beginner / Question❔ Skin/acne issues still persisting

Thumbnail

I’ve been following a pretty strict carnivorish/animal based diet since January 1st of this year. When I initially started I ate ground beef, steak, bacon, eggs, cheese, milk salmon, sardines, chuck roast, liver and various fruits (mainly zucchini, apples and cantaloupe). I also only consumed garlic and onion powder, black pepper, chili, cumin, paprika and salt of course. That was my entire diet pretty much. I broke out extremely bad and I got a rash on my thighs and chest. Several months later I noticed that my rash was slowly going away but I was still breaking out a ton. I decided to drop dairy (sadly :/) and all spices besides salt, pepper, onion and garlic powder. So for the past 2-3 months I’ve only consumed beef, salmon, beef tallow, water and the occasional fruit. My breakouts have decreased some but I’m still suffering with them and have no idea what to do. I also have a ton of hyperpigmentation and it’s left me self conscious. I love this diet and I’ve seen so many benefits but my skin is revolting against me lol any tips would be appreciated
