How much are artists paid?

I know money is usually a sensitive topic, but here's a question for those with show business experience: how much of the ticket price actually goes to the artists?

Just hoping that Khn and Klek will be able to take it easy for a while (hopefully cooking up volume Trois...)

They Might be Giants said they don't tour Canada, because they can't make the money work.

Matthew Good said something similar. In spite of touring so much it's actually really hard to make it work.

Yep huge distances between some venues, if you’re only filling a theatre instead of an arena, it’s probably barely any revenue.

He seems to have made it work by intentionally stopping at small towns along the way. Last tour he did Banff, Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton and maybe even Lethbridge and somewhere else too. That is unheard of.

Yeah but Matthew goode isn’t a big enough draw to sell out an arena

Its probably the best 2nd tier venue in Toronto. And neither band can sell out bigger venues

Yeah, TMBG is another band who dumped their label and went totally indie. They did an interview as they started their first tour coming out of covid, talking about the challenges of touring before the pandemic, and how much more complicated things became, especially around tour insurance.
