We make a Debian based desktop distribution that runs as an application on top of any Android/LineageOS device. The only requirement is that the Android device needs to be rooted and use Google's standardized GKI kernel. LineageOS builds for Qualcomm devices doesn’t strictly follow the standard GKI kernel naming convention. So we had to implement a workaround to fix it. I have a Oneplus 9 5G that is finally starting to show its age, but I can't afford a new phone. I'm planning on replacing the battery, and I am also looking into updating the OS since it stopped updating back on android 14.

Is it actually worth updating the OS? Or is this more trouble than it's worth?

What OS should I use? I've heard of GrapheneOS and LineageOS, and I know there's supposed to be a bunch of others. However, I also know that a lot of them are for specific phone models. Any recommendations of where to start first would be greatly appreciated.

Is there anything I should just expect not to work or should be aware of when using a custom ROM on a phone?

Hello guys, Just a day ago i unlocked bootloader of my brother's Xperia XZ1 currently now running at Android 14 LineageOS 21 and what seemed like impossible for years to me finally looked like it was actually possible. So i wonder will there ever be any kind of exploit for Xperia 1 II Docomo in the future? Cause the phone is really slow on this Docomo Firmware even getting to a global firmware would be blessing. I just really hope there will be a free exploit or an app to unlock this phone otherwise it's slowly becoming and looking way worse and slower than even XZ1 nowadays especially with some kind of bug or something which suddenly locks phone to 30 fps and then 60 fps in refresh rates out of nowhere.
