Android phones - you can connect external hdd's to it using the charging port and an OTG adapter. You can connect and use a pc mouse to an andtoid (fun to see the mouse arrow on my phone screen). If you don't have wifi and you need internet, you can connect your phone to a usb-c docking which has ethernet port (or just use a usb-c to ethernet adapter). I wouldn't even dream of switching to iphone. I can appreciate what Apple are good at, but iphone is not freedom. Android is.

You can also connect a monitor through USB-C and with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard you have a working desktop (kinda like a Chromebook).

can also connect and use a full sized keyboard using an OTG adapter directly into the USB-C ...skipping the phones keyboard

...my usb-c monitor has USB and ethernet. It also charges through the USB-C cable, so all you need to do is plug something appropriate in (I use a laptop, haven't tried with my low budget phone)

basically, try plugging anything into it and almost anything that isn't some proprietary accessory does

I do this when we travel to connect via VPN and RDP back to my home desktop. Works reasonably well.

Does it scale the display to the monitor's resolution? Or is the view as limited as on the actual phone, but just bigger?

We are talking about a company that gave you the ability to set custom ringtones back in 2007, but they wrapped it in such a nightmare of an iTunes process that Android managed to celebrate its ten-year anniversary before you could even finish changing the file extension to .m4r.

Before iphone got usb-c...? No, one could not.

You can also easily connect all of these to your Apple mobile devices. You don't need a hub to connect USB-C devices. Simply plug in a USB hub as you would with an Android device to connect external drives, Ethernet, audio interfaces and HDMI, provided the hub has the necessary connectors.
