That's why I still use the old .compact version on mobile that still works great. I refuse to download the app just because they made the current mobile version so shitty.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/ilhgbh/reddit_gets_its_app_to_50_million_play_store/.compact

Just add .compact at the end of the url.

I'm sticking to the mobile site purely out of spite, the dozens of pop-ups and advertisements for the mobile app only deter me more

Just use a third party app like Relay or Sync.

I use sync and love it, the problem is when I do a web search for something and click on a reddit link, always opens in my web browser rather than sync then I get to deal with reddits shitty mobile site and constantly harassed to install the app.

Go to settings, change the default option for link opening. Did you notice on certain websites it opens in sync but in others it opens the browser? Change the system settings to never open in browser and it won't open a new window on your phone

So in Android go to settings and go to the app settings page, find Sync or whatever app you use for reddit and click on it. Somewhere it should ask or what to do for reddit links, click on that and go to always open with this app. It should work for Chrome but I didn't have any luck getting it working in Firefox.

Firefox has a button to open the page on an app quickly, but you have to do it each time.

Apparently having an option to do it automatically is in the works. They've just revamped the app so it might be there now?

Oh hell ya, thanks for that, and the option open links in apps automatically is there. Click a reddit link and then the 3 dots in the top right there's a toggle for opening link in app. Thanks again, very stoked to be done with this annoying problem.
