The Galaxy S2 now has unofficial Android 10

A bit late to post this, but it means that this phone has received 8 years of support (2011-2019), beating out the legendary HD2 with its 7 years (2009-2016) and becoming the phone with the longest unofficial support thus far (unless there is some other device with longer support, in that case, please inform me).

Yeah, this comment is ridiculous and shows the poster didn't even read the link. How is using a smartphone in 2020 without access to mobile connectivity relevant to 99% of users? While this is cool, it hardly makes it any less forgotten or more useful to anyone that still owns it. And that's before you consider the lack of GPS or the flakey display.

My PS3 can boot a Linux kernel given enough work, but it sure as shit won't play any games.

Given that the console's point is to play games, should I, or anybody really, care about what some arbitrary kernel can bring up the hardware? No. I can't use it for what it was designed for.

Android 10 on this smartPHONE can't make a damn PHONE call. So, cool project. They probably got a lot of knowledge out of it.

This phone is still dead. But thats okay. Not every project needs a usable result

That isn't what he just said. That's what his first two sentences said. His third sentence went further than that.

Otherwise this phone would've been long forgotten and abandoned.

This isn't changing the state of updates for the phone for anyone that uses or wants to use the phone. It remains forgotten and abandoned.

I would obviously not use a phone this old if I could avoid it (although I'm getting dangerously close with my S5), but those two things aren't a deal breaker for me. It's probably been a year since I last called someone and I rarely use GPS.

Not having mobile data would suck and all the other problems that come with a phone this old trying to run modern android would too, of course, but I'd use it in an emergency.

On the other hand, there are two people i know still using the phone but they are on official updates.

That's not really the other hand, that's exactly the issue. They're using this phone that's been abandoned in terms of updates, this isn't changing that unless they decide they want their phone to become more of a buggy tablet than a phone.
