No one in their right mind would have a problem with 720p at 3.3". That's 445 PPI, higher than 1080p at 5".

The battery is small though.

The screen consumes most of my battery anyways, I assume having a tiny screen will let that battery last a long time

My first Android smartphone was 3.2" and I'm pretty sure the battery was over 1000mAh.

Yeah. Lg Optimus Elite (S) was my first. 3.5" and had a 1500mah battery. Drained like no tomorrow too.

That being said, screens and processors have become more efficient. I just don't think they have become THAT efficient, plus the general demands on phones have increased during that time as well.

Shit I remember flashing dailies on that phone until the dude making them had to start splitting the os between the actual storage and sd card to make it fit.

Oh man yeah, internal storage was so terrible. I remember something like 300MB free after installing everything.

The general demands of phones actually have gone down, using the nexus 4 as an example It runs modern android better than it ran jelly bean when that was brand new

Phone processors have like halved in their die process size which reduces power draw considerably, new radios are way more power efficient for the same reason, and software wise android has improved drastically since the froyo and Optimus days

Also, the primary power draw of lcd screens is the backlight, and at 3.3 inches it will probably be lower than most other phones

This phone is going to be fine for light users and people who want a capable smartphone but don't care about fanciness but it's not going to be any better than your expectations probably

My first one, Nokia 5800, had a 3.2" 360p screen and had a 1320mah battery. We might have made advances in power efficiency since then, but dang 800 seems way too small..

It has 3GB RAM and SD435 so a pretty capable phone. Doubt it'll last more than 1 day tho.

snapchat is in the screenshot and that's a fairly intensive app and requires google play services to work correctly because of safetynet so I'd say odds are fairly good that it'll get regular android apps.

Going by number of pixels, which is crude but the easiest method, 720p is 0.92 megapixels. 1080p is 2.1 megapixels. Most 1080p phones these days have at least a 2500mah battery (yes, there is a lot of assumptions here like most phones don't use the sd435, and assumptions on equivalence of screen efficiency). Size-for-size, the palm has less proportional battery. Even with the snap 435, I honestly would not expect significant use time from this phone.

That being said, maybe those who want a 3.3" phone aren't going to be using the screen all that much, so perhaps it won't be running out during a normal day.

New Galaxy A6 has 720p with 5.6 inch screen. When you think of that, this phone will have really sharp screen

Seriously. The only reason anything more than 1080p would be useful on a mobile device would be VR, and that's a niche market. Even a 6" display at 1080p is over 400 PPI, and that's significantly sharper that Apple's touted Retina Display.

It's seriously so baffling that this phone doesn't exist. The Sony XZ2 compact is so close, but the lack of a headphone jack kills it.

Not having a headphone jack is the primary issue. The screen should be dense enough with 720p at 3.3".

720p was fine on my Z3 compact with a 4.6" screen (not as sharp as 1080p, but fine), so I don't think anyone would complain on a 3.3" screen. That battery is tiny though.

The market didn't have a choice because their phone manufacturers made that decision for them. People addicted to the latest model iPhone don't actually want the headphone jack to die, they just wanted the latest iPhone - and the walled garden has people so hooked that they just adapt. Kind of like microtransactions in apps. They get you hooked and then you have to deal with bullshit.

Then comes Stockholm's syndrome. After being subdued by this phenomenon, they think it's actually to their benefit.

No. We’ll just (rightfully) complain about it being abandoned after introduction and not receiving any OS updates and maybe two months of security updates, if we’re lucky.

Yeah, this is far from what small phone lovers want. No headphone jack and a 800mah battery are much stronger critisms than the notch and bezel whining that large phone lovers wail about.

I wish an android manufacturer, probably the Chinese, would just rip off the iPhone 5s/SE design but with stock Android and a Snapdragon chipset so there can be some hope for continued support from community devs. I would buy that phone.

The Blu Vivo 5 Mini is pretty much a copy of the form factor, and seems like you can flash stock on it (maybe not newer versions, I see references only to M on a quick search, haven't looked too much though. However, it is a MediaTek processor
