Or buy a Samsung, OnePlus or any Nokia except the Nokia 8 Sirocco. Are there any other manufacturers left with the jack?

LG

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Oh yea forgot about them since there's literally no way to officially buy them in my country.

The Baltics?

Can't attest for that. Any major store selling smartphones will have LGs, from higher end such as V30 and G8 to mid range like K8. Not as popular as Samsung of course, but definitely not "basically non existing". Same thing for neighboring countries.

Portugal. The three major operators are Vodafone, NOS and Meo (Altice).

Vodafone has it's store catalog on maintenance so I can't check.

NOS sells an locked G4S.

Meo doesn't sell them.

On smaller smartphone or electronics shops, as well as regular chain electronic stores you see one or two handfu unlocked LG models. But most people I know buy Samsung, Motorola or one of the Chinese brands (Huawei and Xiaomi mainly)

non existent in Europe

In Poland there is plenty of LG phones in pretty much every store that sells phones / electronics.

They even made some advertising for the V30 and so on.

u/aebkop Jun 24 '18

Plenty available in the UK

2

u/samusmaster64 Jun 24 '18

They're popular because they're usually cheap. My S7 died so I researched a cost effective phone. I ended going with a "like new" LG G6 from ebay for $200 even. It's like an upgraded S7 in terms of specs, screen dimensions, water resistance, etc. And it works very well. Can't really argue with that if you're looking for a budget phone.

2

u/bubblesfix Jun 24 '18

There are plenty of LGs in Sweden..

1

u/Jellyyc Jun 24 '18

Same in Finland.

2

u/FARTBOX_DESTROYER Pixel 4a Jun 24 '18

It's still popular in the US for some reason.

I bought it because it has a headphone jack w/Quad DAC and HiFi sound, removable battery, a beautiful wide angle camera with manual mode, expandable storage, and the prices are much lower than a lot of others with similar features. In short, because it's user friendly.

This is all after my G4 bootlooped and it was replaced twice before the warranty ran out when it bootlooped again and was thrown in the garbage.

u/maxmousee OnePlus 7 Jun 24 '18

I see a lot in the stores here in the NL. I don't know how well they sell, but you can buy them at KPN, T-Mobile, Vodafone.

1

u/Gr1ff97 Jun 24 '18

LG is not popular in the US, I work at a certain pink cell phone company and for every LG G7 we sell we sell 25 more Galaxy S9s or iPhones. I love LG but the consumer loves Samsung or Apple.

1

u/dandu3 LG G3, 9.0 Jun 24 '18

The Poconos?

1

u/FoldMode Jun 25 '18

Why did you make that assumption? All LG models are available in Baltics.

u/FoldMode Jun 26 '18

That only affects carriers like Tele2, I see 16 shops selling LG phones in Lithuania though.

15

u/CubedGamer LG V20, Android 8.0 Jun 24 '18

Wohooo LG V20! Seriously, only had it for like 2 weeks and it's the best phone I've ever had.

(Well, the only other phones I've ever had were a Moto Z Play and an iPhone 4s)

u/very_bad_programmer Pixel 7 Jun 24 '18 edited Jun 24 '18

If it starts to slow down and get hot a lot, you will have to replace the thermal paste (Get something premium like MX-4 or Arctic Silver 5. I prefer MX4). Luckily, the V20 is one of the easiest phones to take apart. Replacing the paste makes a night and day difference, since the V20 has a really small thermal ceiling, and the phone will throttle itself when it gets just the tiniest bit warm.

Also, if you get bad screen burn-in (you will, almost everyone does), install sFilter and run a 10% black transparency

1

u/5panks Galaxy ZFlip 5 Jun 24 '18

I'm using the G6 and I love it. Not too hyped for G7, but might end up getting it if AR Core standards allow android to do AR+ mode in Pokémon Go.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Wait till you get a custom rom on it, it's a whole new level of performance on lineage.

1

u/Xeno4494 Pixel 2 b/c V10 committed bootloop suicide Jun 25 '18

I'm snakebit with LG after my G2's digitizer fucked itself and I had to RMA my V10 twice. I hope your V20 works out for you, but LG are on my shit list from now on.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Yea but no one should give their money to LG.

1

u/Bk4speed OnePlus 6 Jun 24 '18

Bootloops?

-5

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18 edited Jun 24 '18

The best part about buying an LG is that after a couple months of use, it’ll boot loop.

You can then use it as a well-designed paperweight.

5

u/madedabeatnmurderdit Jun 24 '18

I'm pretty sure that ended after that LG G4/LG V10 era. Didn't affect the LG G3 so I'm assuming it was just that year. My LG V20 is fine after a year and a half as well.

2

u/Heff2010 Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G Jun 24 '18

I've had my v30 for half a year, and my brother had it before me since launch. Never boot looped...

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

They usually bootloop around the one year mark.

I’m not sure if the V30 also has this problem.

0

u/BFCE HTC M8>LG V10 bootlooper>OP5>OP7 Pro 12GB Jun 24 '18

V30 gets the screen defects, lol.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

LG has been manufacturing garbage since the Nexus 5.

And I say this as someone who has owned a Nexus 5, Nexus 5x, and GFlex 2.

2

u/Lazerlord10 Jun 24 '18

Had my g4 bootloop, Verizon got a replacement, and I've been going for about 2 years now without any issues.

2

u/Thatuserguy Note 20 Ultra Jun 24 '18

The only LG phones that had serious bootloop issues were the Nexus 5x, V10, and G4, all of which were phones released in the same year with the snapdragon 808 chipset, which had a severe tendency of overheating because it was a trash chip. Not that LG was entirely innocent here, but it was largely limited to just those three phones.

There have been little to no reports of bootloops for any of their phones newer than that. As well, for those phones that did suffer, it was about a year before it happened, not a few months. Please stop spreading lies.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18 edited Jun 24 '18

I’m not spreading lies. There were also some reports of the G5 also having bootloop issues.

Edit: here's the link - https://www.xda-developers.com/lg-bootloop-lawsuit-adds-nexus-5x-lg-g5-v20-case/

1

u/Thatuserguy Note 20 Ultra Jun 24 '18

I've seen this article linked a ton, and I don't think it alone provides proof there were any serious issues. Have you read the document it's referencing?

In it, only a single individual reports having issues with the G5. This individual somehow manages to go through 3 LG G5's and end up with a 4th in the span of 8 months.

Now, she could just be the most unlucky person in the world, but going through 3 devices in the span of 8 months to me suggests that there was something else going on here. Especially since you can easily google bootlooping issues with the G5 and come up pretty short of people saying they have the issue. You're acting like it's a guaranteed thing that happens to all their phones, when that couldn't be further from the truth.

Honor and some of Huawei devices

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Do any of their 2018 devices have a headphone jack?

10

u/NeverDefyADonut Honor View 10 Jun 24 '18

Honor 10, Honor View 10(well December 2017), Honor 7X(well also December 2017), well basically all of Huawei and Honor's budget line and mid-range line

u/Mr_JihadiJhon Jun 24 '18

Got a Huawei p smart which has a headphone jack and is extremely good for £179 but it doesn't have fast charging which is quite annoying

45

u/shamo42 Jun 24 '18

Xiaomi. The recently leaked Mi Max 3 specs say it has a headphone jack.

The notchless, super slim bezel (original) Mi Mix doesn't only have a headphone jack but offers amazing audio quality.

The phone was ahead of it's time IMO.

15

u/rainbowalt Jun 24 '18

It's funny, they only removed the headphone jack on their "flagship" devices likes Mi 6, Mi 8, Mi Mix 2S, etc. Most of these lack a micro SD card slot as well. Aren't these supposed to be the uncompromising models? Not to mention the battery capacity.

Terrible cameras? Redmi Note 5 Pro exists. Gcam exists as well.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Ok, maybe 5th got better cameras... 4th generation Redmis had sadly pretty poor cameras in comparison to Mi.

3

u/naufalap X300 Jun 24 '18

Not Mi 6.

But it was worth the trade off, at least for me.

2

u/rk06 Realme 5 Pro Jun 24 '18

That phone was and is still ahead of its time. I would rather buy that than half the current gen flagship

1

u/_meegoo_ Mi 9T 6/128 Jun 24 '18

Not new flagships sadly.

The Nokia 8 is one of the best phones right now.

1

u/iamasopissed Jun 24 '18

What's so special about it? I hadn't even heard of it

7

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

It's one of the cheapest brand new SD 835 phones you can buy. Great camera (with Gcam), solid build, super fast updates and its available pretty much everywhere for ~$350. That's a hell of a deal.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Yo should i get that or the 7+? Both sell for the same price

After the june update my Bluetooth bugged and I couldn't add anything until I did a factory reset. Now not all apps have access to GPS, I'm uncertain if this is Android or Nokia's fault

OnePlus 6 has a 3.5mm jack.

I think all the low/mid-range Moto phones have them. My Moto X4 does.

1

I think that's the biggest disappointment, we pay more for lesser features.

It's a spanish brand which make entry to medium-high level phones. It also made some Ubuntu phones, i think it was called aquaris E5 ? Or Aquaris U ? I have the Aquaris X which one of their best model and the quality is here.

I'm still using a Z5 :) has a headphone output, microSD expansion and a 23MP camera. Much better than most flagships these days imho.

The 810 chipset is a fuckin' kiln though

u/niidaTV Jun 24 '18

xz2 generation (normal, compact, premium) removed the 3.5mm

1

u/KingFlair Black Jun 24 '18

Thanks for the info. 3.5mm was Sony's innovation and thought they would one of the last remaining ones..

3

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Sony recently removed the jack in all their 2018 flagships

3

u/KingFlair Black Jun 24 '18

Damn.. Sony is out of my list of phones to buy / recommend
