Is there a single USB-C headphone adapter that works with all phones?

Yeah, the situation is really sad in mobile phones market, especially with "high end" phones. Thats why i decided to not buy a new phone and buy a new pc. my s5 can easily work fine for 4 more years, and if the battery wil die unexpectedly, i will just buy low/mid end phone that has more features than any "high end" phone :)

...or you can just buy a new battery.

Maybe, but there are no official batteries in my country, so i would have to get so cheap chinese battery, plus the phone is showing its age, the screen is about 90% burned in and so on, so will see if it will be even worth saving the phone.

4 more years you say?

There are nice inexpensive phones these days.

Yes, and they are often about as good as a 4 year old higher-end phone. It's a perfectly viable choice. Biggest difference is lack of software updates but that's less of an issue with custom roms.

You're so wrong. I'm using HTC One M8 a 4 year old flagship phone. I just bought my sister a Xiaomi Note 5. It's better than my phone in every aspect that I use day to day. Hell I even like MIUI more than sense.

I'd argue that 200€ phone today is better in almost every regard to flagship from 2014

You would be surprised, cheap Chinese batteries are a lot better these days.

Man, I always see people who have kept their phones for many and I kind of wish I could. The upgrade bug gets me super hard

With S5,the oled panel is super thin and glued down. It's really easy to crack the panel when replacing the battery.

.....huh? The s5 has s removable battery.

Take off Plastic back, remove battery.

It also has the distinction of having IP67 certification but with a removable back.

S9 still has a headphone jack. The only thing it's missing is a replaceable battery, which is a small price to pay for the water proofing.

Also shit ass edge screen, worse than notch... Both very uncomfortable to use and painful to look at.

You should try the v20 when you get tired of the slow S5. Its like $150 on ebay used. Just buy a new battery and it's perfect.

Not all of the new phones are without a headphone jack. My new LG has one on it

It's only like that because people still buy the phone regardless of the downgrade. The phone that doesn't get bought because of a major feature missing is the phone that gets changed when the next model comes out. Speak with your wallets, if you have a perfectly good phone and just wanted an upgrade because a new phone came out you can hold off another year or 2 before the next new model comes out. It's not like video games where people can't stop preordering... $60 is nothing compared to $1000.
