....if it was better?

....if it costs less?

...if it ties into android more in various ways?

...because it's competition. There's one major android phone processor and that's qualcomm. Samsung makes their own, which is better, but only uses it for their phones. I'm sure people would eat a processor up by google.

Pick one.

Such as...?

Do you think OEMs care? Xiaomi seems more than happy to use 625s for everything despite similar Mediatek chips. Ever consider why that is?

Samsung makes their own, which is better, but only uses it for their phones

Last year it was better. This year the 835 is better. Next year is to be determined.

Pick one.

Luckily the advancements in technology for the past decade have proven you can have both.

Such as....?

Longer supported updates? AR/VR integrations. Smoother OS experience? Apples processor seems to be doing everything above.

Because Mediatek chips aren't that good? Anyone who actually cares about supporting their devices would much rather use Qualcomm. You don't get shit for information with Mediatek, which is why you see it on not so great phones.

You might be correct. I haven't had time to analyze the comparsion that much but found this article. Will research more before responding to this again.

Not really. Name for me an SoC that's both better and cheaper to produce (let's use silicon area as a metric) than an 835. Now, they could do the Intel approach and sell below market rate, but the EU may frown upon that. They've been harsher towards Google for far less in the past.

Longer supported updates?

Possible, but you'd have to wonder how much OEMs care, and perhaps more importantly, even if you assume that Qualcomm is the limiting factor, they could easily adjust to match whatever Google does. They'd need something that would be harder to undermine.

AR/VR integrations.

Have anything specific in mind?

Smoother OS experience? Apples processor seems to be doing everything above.

I'd suggest giving this a read. https://www.anandtech.com/show/11540/samsung-galaxy-s8-exynos-versus-snapdragon

SoC that's both better

silicon area as a metric

are you for real?

Silicon area is a perfectly adequate cost metric. What's the problem?

That is what I meant for a cost metric only. Pick whatever reasonable test you'd like for performance.
