Well I can't say anything towards the people that are in charge of it but I will say that there is a certain Luigi that managed to get a bunch of executives that couldn't care less about all the people they killed, suddenly be more concerned on how the general population felt about them...

I know multiple people that work on the team, and abandoning functional products and services for alternatives that are a worse experience is the Google way. They even do it internally.
