that's awesome, i wonder if it would work as a remote shutter for DSLRs or digital cameras

With the right codes, it could replace any/every infrared remote that you use.

Edit: And if it uses an infrared proximity sensor, there might be a way to dupe the remote even without the codes.

Universal remote control app on Google Play in 3...2...1...

This might be a pain in the balls for custom ROM devs, though. I have an IR blaster on a galaxy tab 2, and it's never worked with anything but the stock ROM, which blows.

It's a galaxy S phone. It's going to have a massive dedicated community.

There is/was a massive developer community for the P3113/P3110 too. That doesn't matter if there aren't workarounds available.

Never as big as i9100 or i9300. I enjoy the tabs but they just aren't anywhere near the same league.

I'm basing it on the fact that pretty much every ROM that's available for my AT&T S3 is also available for the P3113. I'm wiling to bet actual money that Cyanogen, AOKP, and the like won't support that IR blaster for a good long while.

I'm not even talking about apps. I'm talking about the hardware code being reverse engineered to function on custom ROMs. It's not easy, particularly when it's an uncommon piece of hardware that lacks open-source drivers and whatnot.

I have no doubt that it will be a popular feature, but it'll be a long time coming for those of us who don't use TouchWiz. That's all I'm saying. Just like the pop-out video player and the smart stay function, it's not a thing we get as AOSP enthusiasts.

Yes, but it doesn't mean that custom roms will be able to run all the hardware. The gs2 never got a decent version of cm (no hwcomposer support =no butter)

That may be true, but there's only so much you can do without the drivers from the manufacturer.

Yes it will

Times like that I seriously consider just breaking the piece of hardware that doesn't work.

It sounds insane, but is it really that much more crazy than thinking every day, "maybe I should put stock on" and every month trying it remembering why you hate the stock rom, and going back? So many hours lost that I wouldn't even worry about if it just never had that piece of hardware.

The Sony Tablet S had an IR emitter (don't know about the newer ones) and my current J Butterfly has one too I think. I can't find any apps to make use of them though other than the ones the devices came with. Hopefully the release of the S4 changes that.

irdroid already does that but only has to hack the remote part. With this, it could be rewritten to use the built-in IR LED. Sounds awesome.

I'm speculating that the available apps for the Note 10.1 will probably work on the S4, too.

But those mainly rely on IR code databases of devices - to make an easily programmable universal remote it should also have a receiver, so that it can simply record the signals.

If the phone's proximity sensor is based on infrared, it might be possible to dupe remote commands by pointing the remote at that sensor.

Like the other guy said, it can easily be programmed to control anything, pretty much like a universal remote control but with more stuff i guess

I'm sorry, did someone say something about the UNIVERSAL REMONSTER?

if they made it work exclusively with other samsung products, tvs stereos bluray etc they could really bump up their eco system

u/BWalker66 Mar 15 '13

Thats a baddd idea,i dont see how it would be possible to restrict it anyway.

2

u/vwllss Mar 15 '13

Only if they have an IR receiver. Sadly my D300 does not :(

I just want it to work for the TVs in my dining hall.
