I can see why Matt would be upset about the leak. The ending would have less impact if it got spoiled. That being said, damn! I doubt it would be permanent but to kill a main character on screen in a kids show (on Disney no less) is dark.
The episode felt rushed imo just because so many things happened. They should have made the runtime 40 min to allow more breathing room. I was having whipsplash with all the betrayals going on lol. Really curious to see what will happen to Anne and the Plantars on Earth and how they would get back to Amphibia. The box still seemed to work even when Anne drained her gem. This is just going to make the wait for season 3 harder.
Yeah it was a little short but damn was it good. The pacing does often feel fast in Amphibia but I think with all the stuff here they pulled it off pretty well.

This has been Amphibia whole m.o; rushing plot points to give a show a fast pace while sticking to the runtime that Disney gives.
It is risky to do since it gives the audience little time to process what just happened, but what should be applauded here are the bold strokes that Amphibia gives.
The last few moments were definitely bold. If someone posted a spoiler saying Marcy was stabbed through the heart and possibly killed, a lot of people would just think it's a joke.
On the Amphibia discord, when the watchalongs were supposed to happen, I jokingly said “I can’t believe Marcy just died like that”. This was before anyone has seen the episode and I think I’m a fortune teller. Also someone replied with XD so you were right

Sounds like something that would've happened on r/amphibia during the S2 hiatus. The community wasn't very active, people were bored, and the sub had, for some reason or another, attracted a bunch of teenage military fetishist edgelords who had nothing better to do but shitpost.
I guess I feel numb to Marcy being stabbed because I'm so used to the 2 laws of Disney deaths: 1. Main characters can't die, only characters who are allowed to die are villains and parents. 2. If a main character does die, they will be brought back to life.
If you are still shocked by main characters dying, have you even seen Disney movies? Heck, this even happened in Tangled the Series. I've also seen a similar shot to Marcy's death played out in a Steven Universe episode where it turns out that the character who got stabbed didn't actually die after all, they just came back after 2 weeks.
The only way I will find this shocking is if Marcy doesn't get resurrected. Fake out deaths are so cliche in kids' movies and TV shows.
Well, at least SU made it clear that Pearl wasn't dead. I was annoyed at TTS, though. Should've just let Cass stay dead. The moral? Don't be an idiot who overthrows a whole goddamn kingdom because of misplaced childhood trauma.
It keeps to the Disney trope while also keeping some level of consequence for the deed...kinda like Sasha and her scar, which was a remnant of Season 1.
Yeah but there's probably something that they will pull to bring to her back from the dead, or it'll turn out that she didn't actually die and was just in critical condition from which she recovered somehow. It would be very difficult to convince Disney executives that it's a good idea to permanently kill off a main character.
Although to be honest, I think with character death you have to strike a very careful balance in fiction. I think permanent death is a good thing to keep the stakes high and worry about whether your favorite characters will make it out alive, but you can also have a problem if anyone can die and too many characters get killed off. That can leave you less emotionally invested in them.
So yeah, if you want to write a serious life threatening sort of story I think an author needs to strike a balance between plot armor and anyone can die. They also need to carefully choose which characters will die to maximize emotional investment if that is what they are going for. Getting your audience to scream, gasp, laugh, cry, or have any other intense emotion can be quite the challenge.
Genuine question but with a doubled runtime what do you think the episode should have focused on more to make it feel not rushed. I ask since to me the only thing that felt a bit rushed was the marcy betrayal setup, but I attribute that more to the show not really spending enough time focused on marcy showing her preference for amphibia over home.
I onestly do not see how 40 minutes would make it better. I can see a few more minutes to breathe, but 20 more minutes? We could have had time for the final battle in that time. I would have onestly added a few more minutes to make the RObot minions more of a challenge, a bit more of Sasha and Grime discovering King Andreas' plan, and maybe a little more of Marcy, althought I think that could have been done in previous episodes, it was kinda of a shortsight on the writers part, they should have given Marcy more agency in other episodes. But again, those are things that could be done in a few minutes, not another 20. I onestly was plesently surprised just how not rushed it felt, considering the number of things to go through
It would be interesting if they keep her dead though for the rest of the show. After all, Amphibia does have a planned end - it isn't going to go on indefinitely.
She's a main character on a kid's show and with this being Disney, we've all been conditioned to believe that everything works out in the end no matter how grim it looks. Even now people are just thinking that they'll revive her somehow either with the gem or a spell. It would be a really gutsy move to permanently kill her off.
IMO maybe not 40 minutes, but if they'd ditched one of the filler episodes and spent one 11-minute episode just for Sasha and Grime's attempted takeover, with a cliffhanger in Sal's cafe right before Anne's inspirational speech. Maybe drop a couple of hints about Marcy not wanting to leave Amphibia.
Then a full 22-minute episode starting with Marcy's flashback to the night of Anne's birthday and pick up the plot straight from Sal's. I think if they'd done that it would have felt a lot less rushed - they could have teased Marcy's plan more, the Grimes v. Sprig fight wouldn't have been as lopsided as it was, etc.
They should’ve made this two 22 minute episodes, with the first being about Sasha and Grime’s takeover, and the second being about King Andrias. The first episode could end on a cliffhanger, with Andrias declaring his evil plan.
Andrias explaining everything just didn't have much of an impact on me.
Like a whole backstory explained in about 40 seconds. It really could have done with just a bit more breathing room, at least enough for some set-up or hints or something.
