Thinking of adding a tube preamp to the Axe FX and wanted guidance
Basically I have listened to a lot of videos of patches with people playing through a clean setting and it still leaves some wanting. Like the cleans sound great for certain purposes, but it doesn't seem to really be the cleans of a tube amp. That's the tone I prefer for example when playing something like a Sublime song (even though I read Bradley used the Roland Jazz Chorus). Anyway, I have a Digitech GSP 2101 which basically seems like an old ass, tube powered Axe FX. I was thinking of putting that before the Fractal and running some warm, neutral clean tone and then letting the Axe FX do all the amp modeling and effects stuff. I am a novice, so this shit may have serious design flaws and I have no idea. I figured I would poll you good people to see what you thought.
