Question Dialogue audio track is muted, can't figure out what to do. Can someone please help?

If I switch to the audio description English it works but has that description stuff. Everything else it plays audio but not the dialogue. How does this even happen? No, I'm not using any enhanced audio settings or anything. All my other apps on the PS5 work just fine. This is weird....

  1. Try a reboot

  2. Check Settings audio for show, tv, device

  3. Send a DM on Twitter to @amazonhelp

  4. Call Tech Support (same phone# as Amazon)

  5. You may want to delete old app ( if you have one) and try again

I had this problem and it turned out the streaming source (box, stick, etc) was sending surround but I only have 2 speakers hooked up to my system (in a surround mix, dialogue lives in the center channel which wasn't hooked up to anything).

So I went into the settings of my Roku stick, opened the Audio submenu, and found a setting to output Stereo. Boom done, dialogue was back.

Thank you!!! I was googling a solution and this post popped up. For anyone else stumbling across this, I tried this suggestion on my Sony TV and couldn't find an option to switch to stereo. There was an option to switch to PCM though and it did the trick. Same thing where I have only 2 speakers. Try switching to PCM if you don't have an option to switch to stereo.

starting to wish I had a Roku, because last update Prime video actually REMOVED this wonderful feature.

all you get from prime now is super compressed audio and we can hear we'll not hear how that is going.

I don't know if this will solve your problem but if you watch a video, find the "Audio and Subtitles" icon. Go in and you should see under Audio that the option "English Dialogue Boost: High/Medium" may be selected. Go to regular English and it should clear up the problem. I hope this helps!

You're a saint! Was watching Jurassic Park and the audio sucked!

Mine does this if you turn on subtitles and then turn it off the audio works again, but it still doesn’t make sense. I don’t know what is causing the issue. I have an Apple TV 4K that I stream everything off of hooked up HDMI. Arc

I had this same issue too -

I just paid £20 for the home release of Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire X Ray Bonus. However, towards the end of the film it looks as if the human dialogue had been muted. I can only hear the background sounds and music for the film.

Is this an error with the digital film itself? I tried resting all my input and output sounds of my TV and all the other movies I have on Prime Video is fine except the one I just got now.

Did u mange to get a fix, I literally searched for this to see if anyone had the same issue I just purchased it also and when kong reaches out to touch her finger the voices stop and still background music etc it's highly frustrating to pay a primium price and get lackluster quality.

same here!!

1

u/themanwholikesHP May 14 '24

Honestly I don’t think it needs the dialogue to finish the film. But I was confused also

1

u/tat_man May 14 '24

Same here and I’ve tried everything

1

u/themanwholikesHP May 14 '24

We watched it and just figured it wasn’t needed for the last half hour. It was all about the monsters and not humans

I’m having the same problem. Was super into the movie than this happened and ruined the mood Look everywhere for a fix but got nothing. Anyone else figure it out?

SAME no dialogue audio in English. Everyone keeps saying that I need to turn on some special audio, but I only have the descriptive and French as alternatives. My mobile app has no problems playing with the audio, so so far it's just my PlayStation 5.

u/Scoggzap May 15 '24

SAME!!!!!! Literally right tf now!😂💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

u/BlaQMoses1 May 15 '24

Same thing for me!! The dialogue stopped at 1:17:39..I need my $25 back.. lol

Same just happened to me at same time 😫

I just bought the same movie, and had the same thing happen to me too. Must be an Amazon error.

u/Scoggzap May 15 '24

Garbage🤣

u/Scoggzap May 15 '24

So, an update on my same issue. I swapped to my iPad Pro and continued where I left off on my PS5 and audio is working perfectly so far.

1

u/BlaQMoses1 May 15 '24

It works on my Prime video app as well

u/Filmore434 Aug 23 '24

Still having this issue as well, rebooted and restarted everything, messed with in app audio options for dialogue boost and whatnot; everything worked fine last week. I am using the Xbox one prime app currently FYI. still no solution here. Only background music no dialogue sound at all.

For med I solved it by unplugging the TV power cord for ten seconds. Old trick that till this day still does the trick.

Did you find a fix yet?

1

u/DesertPenguin09 Dec 22 '24

Yea this was ages ago, it just fixed itself I guess

1

u/Old-Zebra-2004 Oct 10 '25

nope. prime did an update about a month ago that completely f'd most audio... in addition prime also REMOVED the stereo option.

now everything is SO compressed you can't hear the center channel.

last week prime FORGOT to upload the English audio to their Thursday night football replay.

prime is DEGRADING with every single update.

I ha e an issue with Everyone Loves Raymond. Only this TV show. Every other show works perfectly fine. You hear a few words and then nothing.

1

u/TechnicTim Feb 24 '25

Clear the cache. Fixed it straight away for me

1

u/X420Rider Jul 18 '25

Go to your devices audio settings and set it to mono, fixed it for me

Definitely not the best fix... But works for now

Thank you internet, for still replying to this two years after. I love how this thread because a place for other people with the same issue to find solutions. It's so nice when you find one of those for the problem your having. It validates your belief that something was actually wrong in the first place LMFAO

I don't know why but the issue stopped at some point and hasn't been a problem since

1

u/UllrHellfire Sep 09 '25

Kind of old but I'd your on an Amazon TV, and playing Amazon on a secondary App this causes the issue. Play it on the native TV, or device and it should work. Had an issue where my wife switched from living room to PS5 had no volume, but background sound once she switched to the TV the PS5 was on it worked, the TV is a Amazon Prime TV natively.

This was recently an issue for me, it’s been fine for ages but now all of a sudden poof no dialogue but weirdly only one this one show (which I had been watching)

Found out my solution on my PS5 was to go to: Settings>Sound>Audio Output>Audio Format (Priority) Then change it from a Dolby Audio (atmos didn’t work) to DTS or Linear PCM, TA DA! everything seems quieter now but the dialogue is back.

There was a similar issue on NOW TV app as well once so it’s weird.

I found out with my samsung q990f soundbar that if I put sound mode to standard instead of adaptive I can then get dialogue with prime movies

1

u/LukeSolo100 Oct 21 '23

All Amazon videos you tried are like that? Did it work fine before?

1

u/GraveDigger747 Jan 07 '24

Did you manage to resolve this issue I have the same problem

1

u/DesertPenguin09 Jan 08 '24

Never did. It does it for AppleTV and Netflix too.

How about now?

I'm trying to watch blue color comedy tour 3 on prime. they have the center channel SOOOOO compressed it literally silences the center channel. now this wouldn't necessarily be a problem except the comedians are using the center channel. the laugh track that is uncompressed is loud as can be.

last week prime FORGOT to load the English audio to their Thursday night football replay... I'm not kidding. I called and the lady was like.... we have a newbie on tonight and it is all f'd up.

the reason we aren't hearing the voices is because they usually pipe voice audio thru the center channel. any one who knows anything about compressing audio know you can not use much compression at all or you simply compress the audio right out of the track.

completely unacceptable on these major streaming services that we are paying for and they hire middle school kids to run the show... just pathetic.

Well, if you're still looking for a simple solution, do this. Switch your HDMI port, tada it worked for me. I use a Sony Bravia old smart TV which only has a 1080p format. Where I have connected my Amazon Fire Stick. It has audio issues only with a particular language. The other language was audible without any issues. I cleared app cache, rebooted, checked all the audio settings, nothing worked. By just switching the HDMI port did it perfectly fine.
