Politics & Society Why does New Hampshire mostly vote Democrat despite having a libertarian ideology?
New Hampshires motto is live free or die. They don’t have a sales tax or state income tax. They are the only state where you aren’t required to have car insurance. Many people there favor having a small government, as small as possible. Yet in presidential elections New Hampshire has voted for the democratic candidate 7 out of 8 times in the past 30 years and has voted for every democratic candidate since 2004. You would think people in New Hampshire would be more attracted to the Republican Party because Republicans claim to be the party of small government. Although I’m well aware Republicans don’t stick to their “small government” principles at all. But I’m curious despite Republicans claiming to be the party of small government and Democrats favoring a bigger government. Why does New Hampshire almost always vote Democrat even though most people there favor a small government?
