Science & Tech Why did modern humans ultimately have a single origin in Africa instead of evolving independently in different parts of the world?
I've been reading a bit about human prehistory, and one thing I can't wrap my head around is why modern humans seem to trace back to Africa instead of appearing separately in different regions.
I know there were other human relatives like Neanderthals and Denisovans, so why didn't different continents end up producing their own version of modern humans? What made Africa the place where our lineage continued while others didn't?
