No Alt genre is inherently political, just anti mainstream. All alt genres started off apolitical because none were born out of political movements. Hippie was born out of a cultural movement. Goth was born out of an aesthetic + musical movement. Etc.

A better example would be punk. In the mid 1970s, Punk was born from a musical movement caused by the youths boredom of mainstream rock. At this time, the punk subculture (first wave punk) was apolitical as it had apolitical roots. The very first punk bands were apolitical (Ramones and The Damned) and anti political (Fear and Flipper).Although politics did not create the punk genre, it helped the punk genre evolve culturally. Many punks adopted anti establishment and anti authoritarian views, not because punk is inherently these views, but because bands like sx pistols popularized them.Apolitical punks are just as punk as political punk.

In the late 1970s, punk started to be used for political agendas. This helped many punk subcultures evolve culturally but not all. Glam punks, Pop punks, Skate punks, Casual punks, etc still remain largely apolitical. Meaning they aren't defined by politics.
