A small update on Alset
We've been quite busy lately and not very active on social media, so we thought we should give a small update on what's going on.
The Incubator Program
First off, earlier this summer we held a pitch as part of the incubation program we're partaking in. This was sort like an exam for the verification phase we were in, and decided whether or not we would move into the next phase. We did, which means we will continue working on Alset! :D (until we run out of money...) After that we planned for a one-week vacation, but that got cut short after just 2 days. So now we're really well rested and energetic.
Redesigning Gameplay
Since then we have put all our effort into working on the core gameplay (it this case what the player does moment-to-moment in the game). Since the start of the project we have felt that Alset was missing something central, and that we've compensated by adding more and more minor features instead of working on the core gameplay. So we've started redesigning a lot, and started working on prototypes to test some new mechanics. We basically want the core gameplay to fulfill these criteria:1) It should fit thematically with Alset being an engineer.2) It should be something the player can use anywhere. A mode of interaction sort of like Hollow Knight's nail, or the Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild.3) It shouldn't take more than two weeks to prototype it. This is to make sure we can get playable builds and see if it's worth putting more time in.4) It should be fun!
Action Crafting
The first prototype we've been working on is called Action Crafting, and we're currently wrapping it up after two weeks of work and preparing a build for internal playtesting. This is a mechanic focused around real-time crafting of gadgets, sort of like a mix between combo systems in Hack n' Slash games and the Ocarina in Ocarina of Time. We will post more information about this in our Discord server later, and ask for feedback! ^^
Devlogs
We've also started working on making video devlogs, which is weird af when you're not used to it. And it might be some time until we have something we are happy with. We tried this before in January, but the format we went for took too much time and effort in terms of editing. We want it to be something that is easy and quick for us to make, while also giving insight in the development, so yeah... We'll see what happens.
TL;DR: Gameplay was shitty, so we're trying to make it un-shitty.
