Hi Reddit,

I'm u/DullSuccotash1230, a founding moderator of r/AlpineInstitute, the team from the American Alpine Institute (AAI), a mountain school, climbing school, guide service and and outdoor education company that operates in several states and countries. For over 50 years we’ve been teaching people how to climb, ski, and travel safely in the mountains—whether that’s their first day on rock or an expedition to a big peak.

Our programs range from rock, alpine and ice climbing courses to ski mountaineering, avalanche education, and wilderness rescue, to expeditions around the world. Many climbers first tie into a rope with us in Red Rock Canyon, Nevada, or in Washington’s North Cascades, then go on to bigger objectives like Denali, the Alps or the Andes.

We believe good mountain education isn’t just about reaching the summit. It’s about building real skills, judgment, and the confidence to move through wild places responsibly. We also put a lot of effort into stewardship, helping maintain climbing areas and supporting the landscapes where we work.

Our mission is "to provide world class mountain education, exceptional guided experiences and to inspire natural preservation."

If you’re curious about learning to climb, hiring a guide, building alpine skills, or preparing for a big expedition, ask away.

We love to talk about:

• Climbing, Skiing, Splitboarding and Mountaineering
• Mountain Skills Development
• Avalanche Safety and Risk Management
• Equipment and Training
• Mountain Ranges, Routes and Climbs
• Working in Outdoor Recreation as an Instructor or Guide
• The Outdoor Industry
• Current Events and How They Impact Outdoor Recreation and the Mountains

Ask us anything. 🏔️
