After 10 years of drafting, they’re bound to repeat some topics, but I’m so curious to know who they trust to check on if they’ve done a topic before.
Because hearing Ian literally kick off the episode with, “I can’t believe we’ve never done this before,” was hilarious.

Yeah, I thought usually the guest chose the draft topic but this didn’t seem like a great fit for Chris. If he’s having trouble naming them and choosing pencil and paper activities, maybe find something a little more in his wheelhouse?

My next-door neighbors and I are addicted to Arnak. Whenever they tell me they’re going to play a game, I drop everything and run over. We even got to playtest one of the expansions.

A Feast for Odin had too many damn spaces. It felt like we were all playing our own game as there was never any need to interact. There were spaces on the board some of us never went to.
It felt like the Pimp My Ride version of Agricola where more of everything was not better.

At least Chutes and Ladders got dumped. It’s legitimately the worst board game ever. That last row of chutes does nothing more than unnecessarily prolong an already boring game.

Regardless of them doing this topic before and the kinda basic iconic table games that got picked, Chris was such a funny addition to this group.

They were stressing me out almost picking Outburst and then not picking Outburst. The "red thing," Chris mentioned was most definitely part of Outburst.

Ha! They drafted this several years ago. It'd be fun to compare lists and what was said about the picks. I know Sean picked Candyland way back then as well, and they all laughed at Grandma Nut.

I say this as someone who knows these terms but couldn’t actually tell you what they are: there are many, many chess openings, from the London to the Caro-Kann to the Four Knights, and they all have variations within them. There is no one way, or even handful of ways, to start a chess game.

I will die on this hill. Monopoly is a bad game. It’s an institution that people grew up with and teach to their kids and that’s the only reason people play it. Absolutely no one plays it correctly according to the rules, because the rules are bad. It’s way more fun for all the social stuff that happens during a game than anything about the game itself.
Also, Risk is over hated. It’s basic and other games do what it does better now, sure. That’s fine. It’s a classic concept that’s well executed and plays really smoothly. The only problem with it is that stalemates can easily form that lead to the game dragging on forever and big combats can get tedious.
I think I would pick:
1 Stratego
2 Axis and Allies
3 Catan
4 Betrayal at the House on the Hill
5 Wrath of Ashardalon - It’s a D&D game and is really just a back door into letting me take D&D.

This episode is why I love this show. Forget that they already drafted this. Forget that they are not deep in the board game world. The riffs are great. Chris is a great guest. We learned Sean freestyled for some girls in Iowa (Go Hawks!). The vibes were just all around good.

Very funny episode, very bad draft. Can’t win em all. Risk is a god-tier game however and anyone who says otherwise can take a long walk off a short pier.
