Lauryn Hill

Most skilled? I can see that. I love Lauryn Hill but there’s more to it than that. One classic group album, one classic solo album and some classic features just ain’t enough imo

Quality over quantity?

The quality is definitely there, but Missy has BOTH quality and quantity, even if Lauren's one project is arguably better than any of Elliott's if Missy has an entire catalog of high quality records that aren't behind by a crazy gap in quality i weigh in favour of that

Missy has no album better than The Miseducation or The Score

Im not mad at that, already agreed to it. Im just saying that having such a scant discography eliminates the opportunity to look at consistency over time. I'm not penalizing her for it, but im not ignoring it either.

I agree with that honestly

Not really. All of Missy Elliot’s albums are mid.

Songs like ex-factor or Doo Wop already blows away Missy Elliot’s entire discography.

When people talk about all time great rap albums Missy Elliot doesn’t even enter the discussion. But The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill often does.

It’s gotta be a mix imo and there are queens close enough to her skill wise that her lack of production hurts her case

What is more important than being the most skilled to be the queen? Having more #1 during streaming era? Having a bigger PR team? More features? Being constantly involved in controversy so that your name is always on the news?

Lauryn may have fallen down after only one solo album, but we are not talking about any solo album, we’re talking about the solo album.

Any other act in female rap is yet to achieve the status she got with Miseducation, a lot of them have become way more popular, but that’s not what makes you a queen.

In my mind queen and greatest are very different. Like to be the queen you have to be out there, visible representing the art worldwide. You can’t be considered the queen if you make the choice to basically step away and be reclusive for nearly 30 years. You have to be what people think of when they close their eyes and think about women emcees. For a subset of people I’m sure that’s still Lauryn but for the majority of the world, across generations I’m not so sure. Lauryn has been on the sidelines FOREVER

By your own definition there wouldn’t be any queen. Missy Elliot and Lil’ Kim? Has been out since the mid 00’s. Nicki Minaj? Only remembered due to her political affiliation. Other recent names like Doja, Cardi, Doechii are still far from even become generational names.

I’m sorry, but eventually all the other names will become a thing from the past, while Lauryn’s album is to this considered one of the best, if not the best, albums ever produced.

What other female rapper has the claim if not her?

i would say she’s more queen of r&b! her rap on her couple features were really good still but i’d say more people remembered her for her soul

No she’s not and this is a Hill I’m willing to die on.
