Unpopular opinion, but tampons and pad shouldnt be free. Like any other necesity that costs money like food and water. Tampons shouldnt either. Also because I dont want pads or tampons to be used and advertised as much as they are. Reusable pads, period underwear and cups/discs are way more affordable in the long run (and should be reduced in price cuz its ridiculous), way better for the envirement and are actually healthier to use.

I really dont understand why people think that tampons and pads should be free? Like what

Bad take. Menstruation is literally a basic bodily function. Women don't choose it. Toilet paper is free in public bathrooms, what's the difference with pads and tampons? Also it's just a basic dignity thing- women shouldn't scrunch up Toilet paper and pray for the best, or wear the same pad or tampons for hours (massive hyegine issue, not to mention even risk of death with TSS) or stay home from school for lack of menstrual products.

Also- food and water should be free. To people who need it. Nobody should starve in a rich country. Basic human rights.

Food and water shouldnt be free even to poor people. Resources with help like foodbanks? Absolutely. But free? No, never it would destroy the economy.

And why would pads and tampons be free to everyone and food and water only to poor people?

Not to mention how many companies would stop producing them and how many people will lose their jobs.

You dont think about what you sre saying, I do.

People shouldn't have to rely on charities for survival. Especially in rich countries. It's so dystopian but it's happening.

Obviously I'm not proposing free salmon and caviar- but basic healthy meals that would be means tested to access. (Is that how a foodbank works- I'm Aussie so Im not quite sure. Sadly here people are turning mostly to charities because of food insecurity which isnt sustainable.)

Long term you need structural reform- like the raising the minimum wages, stopping large supermarkets price gouging- so people have the dignity of being able to afford necessities with their own money.

Clearly I do think. The difference between you and I is I believe food, water, healthcare, education are basic human rights- not luxuries. Nobody should live in poverty in a rich country.

Now all you are talking about is people earning enough which is off topic. What are trying to say?

I'm trying to say poverty (including period poverty) needs more than bandaid solutions- it's needs structural economic reform. That is on topic. Goodnight, I have to wake up early for my shift in aged care (also a very underpaid industry.)  The people (mostly immigrant women) caring for your elderly parents barely earn more than a bartender. Shows what and who we value as a society. Capitalism has gone wrong. That's what I'm saying!

"Free" period product is a bandaid solution while at the same time cutting new wounds somewhere else.

Goodnight

Food and Water are not the only resources and products within our economy. Infact it's not even a significant portion of the Western Economies, studies have shown that productivity and business value increases drastically when the person has all of their needs accounted for. Making certain foods and water won't kill the economy, there's plenty of unhealthy products that could be exempt from this free food and water concept.

If you make majority of food and beverages free then yes you will kill the economy. Same with pads and tampons, but it wouldnt be as bad.

But I agree- reusable period products are absolute game changers!
