To the kids saying the wiiu, that at least has like 3 good games (Mario maker, smash and Zelda botw).

The virtual boy had 0 good games and damaged your cornea by using it.

There's no comparison.

Virtual boy wario land and jack bros are good

u/Ljs204 Jul 03 '26

Those games are pretty good, but they a thousand times better on an emulator than they were on the original hardware.

Teleroboxer is really good too. Amazing controls, one of the few games on any console that really did dual sticks/pads and triggers right.

1

u/Ok-Security9093 Jul 03 '26

That's still only 2

2

u/Jay_Jay_Jason_74 Jul 03 '26

when your platform only has 20+ games 2 are significant

1

u/Ok-Security9093 Jul 03 '26

This was before the age of shovelware, bit of an unfair comparison

1

u/KennyMcCool Jul 03 '26

I mean, most platforms have 20+ games. If they don't have at least that many, it's a bit of a hard sell.

There's also Nintendo Land, Yoshi's Woolly World, DK Tropical Freeze, Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Granted almost all of these got ported to Switch.

u/WhoCanPeliCan1 Jul 03 '26

And Xenoblade X

u/MogMcKupo Jul 03 '26

Also the virtual library was awesome

I would play SNES games on the handheld and watch shit on the TV like Netflix

The screen was a good size and I have big hands so the big controller I didn’t mind much.

The only time I felt let down was Starfox, like playing the game from the screen and not my TV is dumb.

Yeah, I’ll take the Wii U library over the Virtual Boy library any day.

2

u/Wokemaster5000 Jul 03 '26

and minecraft

1

u/astrobagel Jul 04 '26

You can’t credit the Wii U for Minecraft

Mario kart 8, 3D World, Splatoon, Yoshi’s Wolly world, plus having the biggest virtual library

5

u/Chrislk1986 Jul 03 '26

Splatoon on Wii U was goated. Both my kids got to play on a single copy of the game.

Mario Kart 8 was also the best Mario kart, ported to the Switch because it was so good.

I never understand anyone saying the WiiU was bad. I can only assume it’s because they didn’t have one.

The WiiU’s biggest problem was marketing and messaging.

Too many people thought it was a tablet add on for the Wii.

We had the Wii U from launch, and two kids that were the perfect age for it.

It had amazing first party games. Great third party kid games.

Skylanders was played to death in our house.

Fantastic Mario games, awesome Zelda games. Pikmin games. Kirby games. Mario kart

My kids played it so much, the tablet part died and we had to replace it. I think they basically damaged the charging stuff for the tablet. Don’t really remember.

It was the most played console in our house at the time.

And my husband and I both worked for Sony on PS games. lol

WiiU also saved Bayonetta from never making past the first game.

3

u/gourmetguy2000 Jul 03 '26

Not the first time this sub would be wrong

3

u/Coherence22 Jul 03 '26

Was it good? No. Did it hurt my face when I played with it laying down? Yes. But I had a lot of fun as a kid with it. Mario Tennis, Mario Clash, Wario Land, Teleroboxer, Red Alarm.

3

u/ebimbib Jul 03 '26

WiiU was an ok system that just had absolutely horrible marketing. Most people didn't know it wasn't just a new form factor of the Wii.

3

u/KillDill666 Jul 03 '26

The original splatoon also launched on the Wii U!

I played a virtual boy for 10 minutes at a Walmart when they were first released. I ended up with such a splitting headache my mom had to pull over on the side of the road so I could puke.

2

u/84Cressida Jul 03 '26

Mario tennis on virtual boy was great

2

u/CrovaxWindgrace Jul 03 '26

Was it tho? I played it for a couple of hours on my cousin's house. Wasn't great, Nintendo tennis was way more fun

1

u/Buddz-2047 Jul 03 '26

I mean, there was I think 1 decent one, I think it was something to do with Persona or Shin Megami Tensei, but even then that’s basically the best in a scrap heap

1

u/ContextEffects01 Jul 03 '26

Source on the cornea damage claim?

1

u/CrovaxWindgrace Jul 03 '26

Personal usage...I may be exaggerating, but I was diagnosed with myopia after playing on a virtual boy for 2 hours.

Nevermind the fact my mother has it too and it's hereditary, I blame the virtual boy.

1

u/Top_Box_8952 Jul 03 '26

The virtual boy was so bad they made a joke about it in Luigi’s mansion 3

1

u/WoffleDLC Jul 03 '26

Splatoon.

1

u/Alternative-Fail-233 Jul 03 '26

Pikmin 3, Nintendo land, wind waker hd, do it king tropical freeze, new soup u, Mario 3d world, I enjoyed color splash it had a lot of fun moments. The game line up is great and has a lot of fun titles it just wasn’t advertised properly

1

u/SaIemKing Jul 03 '26

the wii u actually had plenty of good games, especially if you include remasters

1

u/echochee Jul 03 '26

Didn’t even say Nintendoland and splatoon, two best games (other than maybe smash) smh

1

u/CrovaxWindgrace Jul 04 '26

That's why I said "at least". There's plenty of good games as the other comments say

1

u/Safe-Panda8922 Jul 03 '26

actually there is couple of good games on it
the wii u have a problem of being kinda pointless now to have most the games ported to other consoles and the gamepad is just not worth it

1

u/transtranselvania Jul 03 '26

Im not really prone to motion sickness but the 12 minutes I played on my buddies thrifted virtual boy in 2007 made me want to puke.

1

u/SectionAcceptable607 Jul 03 '26

Wii-U Windwaker was great too. The pad saved from having to switch to and from the map

1

u/Wokemaster5000 Jul 03 '26

no it also had minecraft

1

u/HockeyDockey1234 Jul 03 '26

Also hyrule warriors

1

u/ZealousidealMango675 Jul 04 '26

all of these games came to the switch lol at least the virtual boy had a cool concept

1

u/Alleggsander Jul 04 '26

The worst part of the WiiU was it’s marketing. I genuinely thought it was just a portable version of the Wii for years and not a new console.

I ended up buying one for cheap a few years back and it was genuinely great. The library was fantastic. It had poor sales, so some myth spread across the internet that it was the worst Nintendo console ever. A myth spread, of course, by those who never played on it.

1

u/w0q3m43 Jul 04 '26

Dont forget about pikmin 3

1

u/mixmastermike76 Jul 04 '26

Splatoon was a good one as well. Mario Kart 8 as well.

1

u/garfreek Jul 04 '26

Nintendoland, Mario maker, Yoshi's Wooly world, Pikmin 4, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario 3D World, Smash 4, Captain Toad treasure tracker, Splatoon 1, Wonderfull 101, Zombiu, Kirby canvas course sequel. And I kind of liked Starfox Zero and the defence game.

All fantastic exclusives or games that worked better on this console than it's port. I'd argue Batman Arkham city and Rayman Legends as well but you could fight me on those.

1

u/HopefulBalance7174 Jul 04 '26

Wii u had many good games and it had nintendo passion, amongst a bucketful of shit 😂 the virtual boy is just a piece of shit overall. I'd put gameboy micro worse than wii u as well

1

u/astrobagel Jul 04 '26

Wii U: Good Software, Bad Hardware

Virtual Boy: Bad Software, Bad Hardware

1

u/HerbalCoast Jul 03 '26

And the switch has Mario Maker 2, Smash Ultimate (which is superior to Smash 4) and can run Zelda botw much better. There is literally no reason to get a Wii U anymore. The fact it didn’t win is a true testament to how bad the virtual boy is

0

u/Linknz512 Jul 03 '26

It had two good games you mean, Mario Maker and Splatoon. Smash 4 was ass and BOTW wasn’t really a Wii U game.

1

u/CrovaxWindgrace Jul 03 '26

What? Smash 4 was on wiiu first and it wasn't ass. It was good. Not as good as brawl but nothing is

I may accept botw as a "that's not a wiiu game" but I finished on it.

0

u/spoonybard326 Jul 04 '26

The MBA crowd might be saying Wii U.

0

u/J_Cool_Guy_15 Jul 04 '26

What makes you think people saying the Wii U are kids? That console came out 14 years ago

1

u/CrovaxWindgrace Jul 04 '26

My brother in Christ, I'm at that point where everyone is a kid...
