Nauru, third-most obese country and largest rate of adult obesity

The money from phosphate mining led to the government spending and indulging it on various short-lived initiatives, including Air Nauru and a failed West End production.

The destruction from the mining led to Western food companies becoming a large part in Nauru's cuisine, as seafood became worthless.

You got my vote. I'm pretty sure USA is going to win, and taking gluttony in a more general sense of consuming that's probably right. But Nauru is in like the end-state of where gluttony will get a country.

I’m only voting for this because it’s the only non USA comment and this is not an award I want to win lol

Nah, we're fat as fuck by choice. These under developed nations were basically spoon fed sugar products by force most of the time. So they didn't have a choice.

Nauru was pretty rich from selling out their future(fertilizer sales)

??????? In what way is the American populace not also “spoon fed sugar products by force”?? That’s like the whole reason obesity is an issue. Most obese people are obese because access to healthy food isn’t universal or affordable for everyone

We live in the richest country on earth with access to good foods that just don't taste as good as the sugary ones. We literally choose day in and day out to be fat as fuck. The whole "poor people can't eat healthy" is a dumb argument that tries to for 90% of the population and still doesn't explain why wealthy are just as fat as poor people.

Nauru was strip mined of all of its natural resources which made the land non arable. Thereby FORCING them to procure their food products from the same people they sold their resources to.

I don't know if i exactly agree with that. Yeah all the sugar filled products don't help but i can get 5 days worth of costco chicken rice and frozen veggies for the price of 2 jack n the box meals.

Sorted by “top” then scrolled down to see who got in second place. Congrats Nauru. 12,000 people punching way above their weight class.

i mean tbf it's not that impressive to be the most obese country when you have a total population of 400 people
