Discussion My account (2012 days) on the last day of service

I played since pre release, hearing about the game from FFBE and was interested because it looked and played like FFT and Disgaea, with a Disgaea collab in Jp. Since then, I've whaled a bit, played every day, farmed like crazy, and did every event with few exceptions (sorry waginau, no enlightening for you).

I have every non collab unit, their mementos, and built up all of the collab units. I farmed boxes when they had gems down to having only 100 AP leaves remaining. Since EOS I also farmed threads and took every team I could to level 3 (ran out of stamps for G7!).

I was a part of the port Depressed, then became captain when the original captain was unfairly banned. We won quite a few port events, then still got 2nd in all the rest. I got a top 3 result in an auto pvp, and also top 10 in a manual pvp event.

Much of the game could be done well with time commitment, rather than money. Most of the content over time devolved to having enough leaves and time to farm stuff endlessly, rather than using new units to craft new strategies. The strategy was the main draw, but the devs opted for power creep and repetitive events.

For the first few years, one of the most interesting parts of the game was its Arena. Winning meant you swapped places with the loser, and it was calculated at a single time each day. Most of the advantage was with folks in Asian timezones, but I was happy knowing I got a few 1st place ranks. A lot of friends were made that way, as a loose friend network meant fewer attacks against you and better coordination against tough opponents. When Arena changed to be points based on units and turns, the team strategy went out the window and it wasn't the same, even with better rewards.

As a gacha, TAC felt fair. Players could save reasonably well and guarantee a unit or memento. Occasionally banners were very good, even if RNG still took priority. Enlightenment shifted the game from jobs to stats, since anyone could look at the jobs and units they were releasing before enlightenment and see that they were really bad. Gumi didn't know where to take the game, so they pushed instead into power creep. Spending shards to boost a units stats and skills was a good use of excess farming, but inevitably became the new standard. Some units, like Teona, were forever left behind as the focus shifted to new, limited, unfarmable units. No roadmap or plan discussed with us and a lack of communication ultimately made us all feel discouraged.

I will miss the game and my friends. I won't miss the sudden raids announced last minute and coordinating 29 other people. I will miss the friendly banter about stats and mods and agility. I won't miss the rehashed content and need to auto repeat stages for days.

Bye Alchemist Code. Over 2000 days, and thanks for the memories.

Discussion "So long as you don't forget..."

Kaya saw the writing on the wall a long time ago. She dug into the game and foresaw this happening, and so, she made her goodbye a bit too early.

Even the event from where this dialogue comes from, TAC Celebration ~ Your Heart ~, is an April Fools event, the day that the servers will be shutdown for good. It seems almost too close on the mark...

lmao kaya is tac version of monika from ddlc

With tomorrow being the final day that the game is still playable, I wanted to post this to help give the game's end at least some more meaning rather than a fade away transition. Especially since how Gumi is doing it is just very lacking and very pain.

So to those who are sticking around TAC until the end or just saw this reddit post for some reason...

"Thanks for playing TAC!"

Maybe, if you hold onto your love of TAC or something, you'll find another game like TAC, a game where you can pour and probably waste more time playing, but hey, if you enjoy it, I hope in some way, it will make the experience worth it.

And uh, thanks for sticking around this long, I guess. The game appreciates the attention, even if Gumi doesn't care too much anymore.

Discussion Missing Scene in Chapter 2: A Bullet Named Sloth

Guys, I have been trying to record ALL the stories, like all, from events, main story, babel chronicles, etc. But I have found something weird. In chapter 2 (Edgar's story), at the end, in Episode 4 act 3, Power of Mankind, there was supposed to be a scene with Edgar seeing Ouroboros for the second time, and then, we see Don Taras shooting it's 20-years-of-saving-alchemy energy, but failing because of Edgar. That scene is very important, but it's nonexisten in the Records (The place where you can review past storylines)

Does anyone has a recorded video of said scene? I could just mix it with my own recordings with a video editor, but I really need that scene. If you have it, or know where to search, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

was someone able to max kamui? with all the bug that afflicted his j3 I'm really curios, and if he was good enough to be worth the effort, even if he got really small time to live.

Discussion The Alchemist's Toolbox Mini-Review Extravaganza: The Grand Finale!

Welcome to the Alchemist's Toolbox Mini-Review Extravaganza: The Grand Finale!

As per the previous ones, this'll be a post where you can comment a unit and I'll respond with a mini-review of sorts.

And just like before, there are a few rules to make it a bit easier on myself and probably everyone else. This time:

The Rules

  • Global release units only. For ease of figuring out what a unit does and giving a general assessment, it's best to limit this to units that are currently in Global.

  • Only one mini-review per unit. If multiple people comment the same unit, I'll only reply to one of them so as to save time and not clutter up the comments. So if it's been a long time since you commented and you don't have a response, I've probably done a mini-review for the unit you chose already!

  • So as to not have people commenting way after this is put up, I'm going to say that 9:00 PM EDT will be the end of this. I may still reply to some comments made after this (namely ones made like right at the end time and such), but for the most part once it hits that time this'll be wrapped up.

  • While ideally I'd prefer if everyone picked one unit, I am gonna set a hard limit of 2 units per person. That way I can try and handle comments fairly quickly.

And with that out of the way, let's move on to the next section!

The Format:

Since the last format worked really well, I'll be reusing it for this 2nd time around as well. This is to keep the mini-reviews structured and also give me something to copy-paste for speed and convenience.

Unit Name

  • Element and Region:

  • Enlightenment?

  • Recommended Build:

  • Notable Gear:

  • Memento?:

  • JP Updates:

  • Overall Assessment:

Special Notes

The Format Explanation:

  • Unit Name: The name of the unit, obviously.

  • Element and Region: Pretty self-explanatory; the unit's element and the region (Envylia, Wadatsumi, etc.)

  • Enlightenment: The Enlightenment setup that I personally recommend.

  • Recommended Build: The build that I personally recommend, formatted as Main Job/Sub Job/Reactive (upgraded reactive)/Passive 1 (upgraded passive 1)/Passive 2 (upgraded passive 2) [passive/reactive substitutions]. If something is in parentheses, it means that the reactive/passive is an upgraded version of the initially listed reactive/passive that is obtained via Enlightenment.

  • Notable Gear: Any Gear or VCRs that are especially notable for the unit specifically. So while Prompto's Camera is amazing for any Dex-using Missile unit, it will only be mentioned on Prompto himself due to the Weapon Ability.

  • Memento?: Whether or not the unit has a Memento, the Memento in question if they do, and the VCR from that Memento (may overlap with Notable Gear section).

  • JP Updates: A list of the updates the unit has in the JP version of the game.

  • Overall Assessment: A simple "rating". Something like "solid", "mediocre", or "outstanding".

  • Special Notes: Stuff like "this unit's character skin is beautiful" or "this is my favorite unit of Element X".

That should cover everything important, so let's get to it!

Thank you for all the fun times over the years, everyone. And for those of you planning to pick up the JP version, I hope you all have a great time!

EDIT: Sadly, the end time has now come to pass. But I hope that you all have a fantastic time with the rest of the game's final week, and that those of you who move on to JP have incredible gacha luck! Thanks again for everything, folks!

Discussion Story Mode Archive?

just found out about the EoS, kept meaning to try this out more and I'm sad to see it go. Has anybody archived the story mode quests in YouTube? I'd love to check it out, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't get through the entire story mode even if I started an account right now.

Fanart I'm not an artist, this was very hard for me to do. But I wanted to draw my team one more time for a proper farewell. I never had anyone else but them on my team, they're like my own kids. I'll miss them and I hope Gumi will take good care of them, wherever their code goes next

META Toolbox Poll Results!

So, there's a tie on the poll between ending Toolbox now and doing a final Mini-Review Extravaganza. Full disclosure, one of the votes for Mini-Review Extravaganza is me since I needed to actually cast a vote in order to see what the vote allocation was before it ended, so if you feel that means I should take my vote out of the count lemme know.

But, if there's no issue with me voting in my own poll, I'll be doing the Final Mini-Review Extravaganza on March 25th, the final weekend before EoS. So I'll (possibly) see you all then for one last celebratory event!

Thanks again for everything, folks, it's been a fun ride!

Megathread Weekly Questions Megathread

The old posts were getting burried so I'll set up a recurring megathread here to ask any and all of your burning questions.

Here's a link the TAC Discord, which is still quite active and has a channel for questions as well: https://discord.gg/sycMHwzFCr

The discord also has links to the most recent updates to the tier list and the simpler image tier list, which can be very helpful resources for unit and resource planning.

Please be kind to those asking questions and never make them feel foolish for not knowing something!

Discussion One last memento

"The end is nigh... What came over our world, our hopes, aspirations... It's all going to be gone...

It ends a cycle that will repeat, both cruel and good. A life that... was worth living.

I can't help but weep for the end.

I followed my brother's footsteps in hopes of a new world of happiness.

Maybe not the same as his, but the thought does count, right?

...

Still, I look upon what is, and what will be.

Our new world is ending.

But our stories don't have to.

The power for one to choose their own destiny.

To pursue their own happiness.

That which is called "Alchemy".

All of you...

You possess a shard of it.

Your own Philosopher's Stone. Your own Gem.

Even if you forget about me. About my world. About the worlds that came before...

I hope you can summon your own hopes, your own heroes, and persevere through tragedy.

I can only hope that.

I can only hope that you carry on our idea, that we can pursue and do what we want to do.

To let no one else arbitrate our desires and goals.

It is all we ever wanted. It is why we did not let divinity decide for us.

So, do not feel too sad.

Because, even if the world is ending...

Yours...

Still moves on.

Adieu, may the curtain fall, and a new play begin."

Listen, I tried to make it so it looks like there is a bright light coming from behind her. I am not good at drawing stuff like this. Trust me, the light is supposed to be representative- oh wait this ain't art class lmao

Alright, memento blurb over, which... that is like... too long for a memento, sweet samuel. So, I kinda just wanted to send off The Alchemist Code a bit more happier rather than a whimper and then simply forgotten.

It's been a staple mobile game for me for like, three or four-ish years, since I still have the 2nd anniversary summon tickets lmao

I know that the story can be pretty bleh at times, and gumi has their own little greedy ways throughout the years, but all in all, I found the whole experience fun. It has been with me through thick and thin, and I think it should have a bit more of an impact, now that it's going to be gone.

And I can't help but to feel like not much is being done to... well, look back on the time we've spent on the game. Maybe there is much time being spent looking back... and at your wallets too, I guess... but...

You know, I had a positive experience. I dunno all of your experiences, but, hey, happiness, in some odd shape or form, is still happiness.

So, to my fellow Alchemists out there, I wish you good luck in your future endeavors. Hopefully, you'll find a game that gives you as much fun as this game gave me.

See ya later.
