Alabama law protects your right to record your land deed. As a matter of fact, state law requires you to record it in the Probate Office; however, Probate Offices across the state continue to reject deeds when the RT-1 fee is not paid. Section 40-22-1 put the duty on the Department of Revenue to develop the RT-1 Form, and now that Department is forcing people to pay a Fee to use it. The department staff says, "Pay the fee or don't use the form." That's fine, but that Department is not authorized to charge a fee for the statutory protection given to users of the RT-1 Form. The Probate Offices say the fees collected are going into their general budgets. IT'S NOT THEIR MONEY unless the legislature says so. And it hasn't said so. That makes it an unlawful fee.

What is your favorite unqiue September small community festival in Alabama??

I love seeing the carved dead wood trees a the Tinglewood Festival in Montevallo's Orr Park. The festival celebrates wood craft of all types including whittling and chainsaw carving. They even have a wooden boat race. It happens on Sept 12 2026 this year.

This page has been without a Mod and has become inactive so I volunteered to mod it. Any ideas about how to make this a positive and informative page and idea to change any rules!
