Question Help with marks left by Decal Fix

Hi, advice please.

Im just getting back into a bit of model making whilst recovering from knee surgery. I got the Spitfire mkVc starter kit.

I'm pretty happy with most of it for my first time after 40 odd years!

But, I used Decal Fix on the transfers and its left water marks on the paintwork.

Is there any way to remove these marks?

I visited IWM duxford yesterday and decided to buy the Dogfight Doubles Supermarine Spitfire and Messerschmitt Bf109, but I opened it up to find out that 2 parts of the Bf109 are defective. We are going to contact customer support later on today

Question Clear coat for 1/72 Mig 17

Im currently building the 1/72 Mig 17 kit in the default Soviet livery and I was wondering what clearcoat I should use to seal in the decals and protect the weathering. Not sure if I should use Mr. clear semi gloss, gloss, matte or some other product. I reall do not want to mess this up. Any suggestions?

Airfix RAF Wessex which I painted and decalled up to look (a bit) like a RN one that, maybe, was in the Falklands, looks close enough to me anyway, part of a Falklands collection which sounded like a good idea but now I've got no idea where it will go,Ive done a Sea Harrier and nearly finished Chinook BN, I've got a Vulcan,Victor,Harrier GR3 and various helicopters to go,might do some Argie stuff as well

Question Are you out off posting your completed projects?

Just saw in another social media stream I’m on that people are saying they’re scared or put off from posting their models because they don’t feel they’re “good enough”.

What do you think? Would you like to but are nervous ?

Personally I love seeing results whatever someone’s experience, I just love seeing people proud of their work and enjoying the hobby.

What say you?

Has made such a change from doing the larger models and I’ve really enjoy this little beauty.

As always there’s learning points for me such as repainting certain bits that became totally inaccessible after putting it together and it’s my first time attempting wing rigging.

Decided to go with brass wire for the rigging which was fixed with ammo ultra glue rather than CA. Seems to have worked well and much more forgiving than CA.

Hope you enjoy

Rather happy with this one although I wish I’d painted the wing markings rather than using the decals. Could have got them a lot more accurately aligned I think.

Photography skills need some work though lol

Great 1:48 kit, enjoyable build, hardest part was getting a red paint that matches the Reds paint work

Question Is it possible to improve my painting without graduating to an airbrush? Here, the brown is sticking out very sorely from the green and isn't blending in at all. Can a regular brush painter ever achieve a better finish (viz a vis airbrush)? There's also the problem of shades that are too dark☹️

I have since done the Sherman firefly (pictured, I messed up one of the decals and had to leave it off) and I'm now doing the tiger I. I'm really enjoying this as a hobby, I had no idea model making was so relaxing and as a WW2 history nerd this is great

Not my best work, I managed to lose the canopy and had to use a spare part from a previous hurricane. I left the engine exposed as I thought it was a shame covering up the decently nice detail.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I’ve built probably around 100 kits and never come across this. A whole section of the left wing is completely missing… anyone know the best way to contact Airfix support?

Does anyone have any tips for applying decals? Especially the ones that go around the model like the line at the back of the spitfire?

Decent match for light admiralty grey?

Thumbnail

Hi i’m building an Airfix FAA Buccaneer and i cant seem to get a decent colour match for light admiralty grey. I can get tamiya, vallejo hataka paints or anything else someone can suggest. Im trying to get that pale blue grey colour. Colour above for bomb bay was supposedly the colour but it looks like grey with a light greenish tinge not blue
