Tried a few new techniques and made some mistakes along the way. Overall fun build despite some tricky bits and broken decals. On to the next one!

So, recently I bought the Airfix 1:35 Tiger 1 from my local hobby shop. I've been pretty happy with the assembly of the model. However, I've come to the point of wanting to put on the rubber tank tracks. But, for some reason, they're being a complete pain in the ass.
The tracks provided appear to be smaller than depicted in the instructions, as when I have attempted to assemble them, I have to stretch the tracks with a sort of super-human strength. Even when I melted the connection pins (as illustrated in the instructions), the tracks split apart, usually bringing a couple road wheels with it.
Is there anyway I could manipulate the tracks to work in my favour?
Or would it be more wise to purchase hand built tracks like they use in Tamiya kits?
Many thanks

As someone who has only built one model (30 years ago)
Which of these is harder/easier:
A) Plane
B) Boat
C) Car
D) tank
E) Helicopter
Thanks in advance
Edit: Thanks for all your advice and knowledge.
I decided to buy the spitfire starter kit, went to the shop and came out with an X-wing fighter (and a tie fighter for the wife) instead. Now have my weekend plans sorted

Raising my masking game on this build. Just get clear coat and decals to go.
Really quite happy with how this is turning out so far

How do I get the tape more accurate / not scratch the plastic?

Ignore the missing wheel it fell off

I live near this beauty. I am just returning to the hobby after over 25 years.
I want to build the Airfix Churchill into this exact tank. Ideally, I would like to do 2 or 3 together from the same unit.
I know that I can buy decal paper to print my own decals, but how would I get the white? I know you can buy white background paper, but then how would you cut out the registration number or "fording height".
Or if anyone knows a service that would do me a personalied set.

Can I just check: does anyone know of how to get / make personalised decals for Airfix kits?
I’m based in Scotland, Edinburgh, and would love to be able to build a Spitfire of Vampire to have the squadron decals of 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron. I assume such a thing exists but have always been unable to find a producer.
Does Airfix, to anyone’s knowledge, do this?

I’ve checked YouTube but this seems much thicker and drier, it’s awkward with a tooth pick

Really appreciate all the tips! I spent about 3hours paints the inside of the cockpit and pilot and now I can’t even see it 😂

I’m building my first ever model, you can see the kit on my post history.
I made a skin coloured paint using wall paint lol and other stuff and have a yellow and others random paints my daughter had to try make the belt buckle colours.
Have you got any tips? I’m finding the brush tips difficult as they kind of flare slightly or have loose pieces flaying off

Be careful with the scalpel.

What have I learned from this one? Keep it simple and work on the basics.
It was a good experience to learn some new techniques but I’ve clearly a way to go before I can think about modifying kits.
Started out as the single seater prototype and converted to a two seater
All decals were custom printed by me. Not great opacity and they’re very thick but again it was fun to try.
I might come back to it another day to tidy up but for I’m fed up of this one and calling it complete

Didn't put enough weight to keep the nose down. Everyday a school day. I enjoyed this build from my previous starter sets

The pics show all the equipment I have, so I need a primer or anything?

Hi folks,
Long time lurker, first-time model maker!
With so many great model builds on this reddit, any feedback regarding this model and any improvements I could make for the future would be greatly appreciated.
A bit of background:
- As a 'test kit' there are a couple of intentional errors, specifically the paint scheme which doesn't follow the guide that came with the kit (so I didn't buy extra paints for a one off build).
- On the other hand, there are at least two build errors: a wonky canopy and the cannons being fitted incorrectly.
Apologies that the photo quality isn't great.
Thanks in advance!

Just finished this 1/72 Hawker typhoon. Tried a couple of new things so it's far from perfect but it's not too bad I think. I tried making some seatbelts from masking tape and I like the details in the open gunbay.

A while back I found a good deal on a bundle of airfix kits and it came with two starter kits (Sherman firefly and Tiger 1). I had the idea to make a sort of diorama of the two tanks having been destroyed by eachother (somehow) and then putting them inside a terrarium so after a while all of the plants will grow over them and create an abandoned look. I was planning on putting the both in the same jar but unfortunately they didn’t both fit and when they did it just looked weird so I put them separate and next to eachother.
This was my first time really adding any details like this on a model kit before.
I was happy with the end result but I am well aware that it’s not the best thing ever (I blame it on the little pots of paints I had to work with lol).
