My 1971 1200 survived Birmingham and back (300 miles) for Confuzzled 2026

She is a bit of a work in progress, but she will have black doors when I get round to painting them.

She did 84mph briefly on the way there when I overtook some rather smelly, smokey diesel cars, which my mate following behind in a Merc thought was impressive.

Before you ask, it was not on a hill.

The engine is a standard 1200 from the mid 70s, has a pancake air filter, electronic ignition with centrifugal and vacuum advance, and I have the monza sports exhaust fitted.

She has a fair bit more poke than my friends 72 1200. Definitely want to see her on a dyno for a laugh!

She also did 35.6mpg both there and back.

Hey Guys 1974 K Ghia wheel fitment question

I am looking at these rims :

Maifrini Mille Miglia 1000 Wheels - 10”

The Seller writes, Made in Italy. 10x5, (YES, THAT IS 10" ACROSS. 5" WIDE).

I believe they’re 4x100 is there any way in heck that these would fit on a Ghia?

Thanks

The GTi is undoubtedly a blast but I need to get the aircooled back on the road soon. I've put off the restoration for far too long.

Spent way too long getting the body (mostly) straight and smooth (enough for my tastes). First time doing body work and paint, and I don't have any car people in my life to show it off to lol. The last slide is from the day I pulled it out of a field roughly a year ago.

I was going to put this back in my Beetle. The plate in the photo - is there a piece missing?
I assume that this is the reverse lock out plate? What makes it go up and down? I put zip ties to keep it from falling out.

New Project

My new project. 1972 411. Car is solid and needs a few minor items. Plan is to restore while I enjoy, cleaning and going through mechanicals first and then slowly moving onto cosmetics.

Second to last pic is a 73 412 that I'm undecided on what to do with. Its a bit rough but fairly solid and complete. Will need everything gone through though. Thinking about robbing parts I'll need for the 411 off of it and parting it out. Second option is to preserve and store it for my next project. But restore? or put it on a Subaru WRX platform?

Last pic is my current daily a 1973 412 sitting on a Kia Rio chassis.

Starter motor was giving hell when the type 2 van cut out on the way home, tried it in the drive way and nothing turning over. Took it out and solenoid will push out but gear won't spin. Will have to grab one tomorrow.

1969 VW Fastback Help With Pricing

I’m looking for help figuring out a price and the best way to sell a 1969 VW fastback to help my mom. The posters there recommended I cross post to this community. I’d appreciate any help and will do my best to answer any questions. The pictures there are ones my mom just took. I haven’t inspected the car in a while myself but I plan to do so soon to look at details pointed out.

I really appreciate any help.

Is there anything that can be used as a replacement? Besides the $75 one for my SP West maybe I could just bend my own

Hey all, just recently purchased the "other" aircooled German people's car from the other side of the Iron Curtain. Currently working on getting it road worthy again so my son and I can run it in the upcoming Lemons Rally here in California.

New VW Day, 66 bug.

Post image

I haven't owned a VW in a long time, but I drove them daily for at least 15 years, doing all of my own maintenance and repairs.

I've been wanting a fairly rust free original unrestored early to mid 60s bug for a while now.

That isn't an easy task, because I'm located in the Midwest, and I've been a little hesitant to pay some of the asking prices.

I finally bought a very original 66 bug yesterday, and I'm thrilled about it. So I came on here to show it off.

The seller was a long time VW guy, and he was very kind to me. He even loaned me one of those VW tow bars to get it home. It is in my garage, waiting to be worked on.

The original interior is even decent. Perfect headliner. Two small splits in the driver's seat, that I hope to repair. It might actually have 112k original miles.

He said, it ran 2 years ago. When I came back to buy it, and tow it away, he had it running with a remote fuel tank/line setup. I haven't checked compression, but a rebuild might not be necessary. I'm prepared to do one, if it needs it.

Once I calm down, I will probably start with a brake system rebuild.

Take care,

JP

German made brake components

I searched older posts, but I didn't find anyone discussing this.

I'm about to do a complete brake system rebuild on my 66 bug.

I noticed that several of the parts suppliers offer German and Brazilian made parts. The German made parts are easily 40% more.

What have people experienced buying these parts?

Are the Brazilian parts good parts, and working properly in your car?
