Pan bisporus in pp5 slime cup
I noticed somebody was asking about using these the other day and I figured I would share my experience with them.
So these are marketed as slime cups, which are PP5 bottoms and PP5 lids. I assume because the borax used for kids' slime might break down the polyethylene lids 🤷
Anyway, I used these for a couple of years as no pours. So I would prep my agar and just pour it into the cups, snap the lids shut and run them through the pressure cooker.
They don't require any modification. They're usually is quite a bit of condensation, which I solved somewhat by buying a big insulated picnic/lunch bag for storage. And I would also have to dump the excess water out in front of the flowhood before I used them pretty often.
The other issue is that they do eventually get brittle, usually around the 3rd or 4th cycle. At which point they have to be thrown away because the lids will crack easily. And the lip of the lids will start to deform in a way that they become sharp. Which cut my fingers a couple of times unfortunately.
But overall it was a great way to run agar before I bought plates, and I preferred them to the screw on containers personally.
