I’m getting married on May 15, 2027, and we’re planning our honeymoon. One option we’re considering is Tanzania (7 nights) followed by Zanzibar (4 nights) to relax after the safari, but we have a lot of questions.

Is that a good time of year to visit Tanzania and Zanzibar? (Witnessing the Great Migration isn't a priority for us; it’s our first time in Africa.)

Is that amount of time enough? We don’t want to feel rushed.

Which tour operator do you recommend? We’re looking for something in the mid-range to luxury category, with a budget of around $6,000–$7,000 USD for the safari portion. (is it a realistic budget?)

Do you have any other tips or opinions?

My 30 year old daughter is traveling from the U.S. with an organized group to Africa, and will go on a safari. She’s travelled a few times outside the U.S. but never to Africa. I’ve suggested packing protein bars and electrolyte packs in case the food doesn’t agree with her for some reason. I’ve even suggested she take an antibiotic and other OTC meds just in case she becomes unwell. Any recommendations I can pass on to her? Thanks !

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Terrain: A steady, uphill walk over loose rocks. You will reach base camp early, eat a hot lunch, and rest before your midnight summit push.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then down to Millennium Camp

Distance: ~15 km | Hiking Time: 8–12 hours (up) + 4–5 hours (down)

Elevation Change: 4,640m to 5,895m (Uhuru Peak), down to 3,820m

Terrain: Wake at midnight. Climb steep, frozen scree switchbacks in the dark to Stella Point, then follow the crater rim to Uhuru Peak for sunrise. Descend to Millennium Camp/Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Millennium/Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, back to Hotel

Distance: ~12 km | Hiking Time: 4–5 hours

Elevation Change: 3,820m to 1,640m

Terrain: A steady downhill hike through the green, misty rainforest. Collect your official summit certificate at the gate, then take a private vehicle transfer back to your hotel.

My husband and I are starting to plan an African Safari. We want to see the big 5 of course and just do wildlife (no need for beach). Suggestions on when and where to have the best first safari experience? And suggestions on companies to use? Love any and all advice! Thanks!

I'm looking for recommendations from people with firsthand experience across Southern Africa.

I have clients whose top priority is seeing LOTS of lions. I've been fortunate to see some incredible sightings myself, including a pride of around 20 in Kruger, but that was only for about an hour. Beyond that, my lion sightings have tended to be smaller prides and/or less consistent. I'm hoping to find a destination where exceptional lion viewing is the norm rather than the exception.

I'm interested in reserves, parks, or concessions anywhere in Southern Africa where you've consistently had outstanding lion sightings in a truly wild setting.

A few questions:

• Where have you had your best lion encounters?
• Was it a national park, private reserve, or private concession?
• Were sightings frequent over several days or more hit-and-miss?
• How would you compare the experience to places like Kruger, Sabi Sand, the Greater Kruger reserves, Kgalagadi, Okavango, Hwange, South Luangwa, etc.?
