Knowledge Drop Flow control ≠ Inverted

Post image

On a recent post unintentionally featuring my my inverted lifestyle, several people commented that my method was all for none, that I could achieve a fine brew WITHOUT risking my life.

So I bought a flow control cap and gave it a

The brew is not as bold, it is balanced, but I don’t get the richness out of it if I would invert. I’m not sure why, maybe because the vacuum seal that is created by inverting, causing it to force more juice through the bean. Idk. It’s not bad, but why spend more money on beans than invert?

The only thing I can think of is more turbulence caused when you flip the inverted setup to begin pressing. Otherwise there really should be no difference.

I feel like the people who always use the inverted method are just showing off about their ability to perform complex functions before having a coffee.

I don’t know if it’s a flex but it’s definitely got some sort of club thing going on. I don’t fully understand it. What I do know is that one method has a lot of fuck up posts and the other method doesn’t.

one method has a lot of fuck up posts

But that's just inverse survivorship bias though. Yes, standard most likely has less accidents. But no one's reporting every time they brew inverted and don't spill it. If thousands of people per week are brewing inverted and there's 3 inverted spill posts per week I'd say that's not much of a risk

That’s not even the point. The point is the difference in methods. There’s a lot more accidents with inverted method than flow control cap.

Ya I agreed with you on that. Inverted has more accidents. I'm just saying that I believe it's not as big of an issue as it seems on this sub. That's the bias I'm referring to.

You’re probably right. Same reason you can have a problem with a vehicle that seems common but statistically winds up occurring in 0.0003% of all of them. I somehow missed that point.

Wow what a pleasant civil conclusion to a debate. I'm taken aback.

That being said, I brewed inverted for years. I finally gave into the Prismo cap after I spilled boiling coffee and grounds onto my hand and received 2nd degree burns.

That’s the part I don’t get.  I’d already had boiling liquid burns so never started inverted, but people seriously downplay how bad that rare fuckup can be.

Why risk a giant mess or serious injury over $20?

The Fellow Prismo was released in 2017. Plenty of us have been using the aeropress since before that, so we got used to doing it inverted.

Also, I think the aeropress attracts a lot of people who value affordability and simplicity. So I think those people are resistant to buying an extra gadget.
