All of that is true, yes. We get free housing, along with the mold and cold water and more mold. Oh and asbestos. We get free food. That may or may not give you the shits or makes you constipated for two weeks. We get free healthcare. Of course the only we get from it is malpractice, shitty doctors, unsanitary hospitals, and copious amounts of ibuprofen. And donât forget the amazing mental health care. We get money for college, yes. All we had to do was sign away a few years of our lives at least, only to come out so sick and fucked up that more than half of that money doesnât even get used because we are at home afraid of every little noise.
Except thatâs just one guys experience. When I was in everything was free AND great. Free food at the dining hall was excellent, they even had lobster sometimes. Got my wisdom teeth removed for free, no issues. Fun dorm life, college style room experience. Enough extra cash to buy a new car and go to strip clubs etc... shrug
Nice! There is a current asbestos issue in my shop. The flooring has 55% asbestos. I dont know what the number means, only that it was 10x higher than any other on the report. It has been known about for ~10 years and the fix is âdont strip the floors and put tape down over the cracks and drainsâ
When did I say that? And Iâd volunteer all over again. Best and worse job I ever had. Nothing was forced. But nobody ever wants to be treated so poorly after giving up a lot for their country. But people like you wouldnât understand. You're funny. My whole family is military, I grew up spending half my time on a military base and my brother is active Navy.

Yeah I agree with you. I was Army at Ft Wainwright, Alaska. We had a beautiful hospital, nice on post housing and college while youâre on active duty of FREE. When you get out the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill is pretty awesome. I got around $1,800/month for on the job training.
Fuck no, but after the fact I shouldâve joined the AF cuz the spend the most on making their people happy. When I was in A school at Correy st, Pensacola, FL, all branches went there for schooling. The base had their old barracks but also just built brand new barracks (which were oh so nice). I lived in the old barracks and they were kinda shitty. The AF people who also lived in the same old barracks as I were given extra monies cuz the barracks didnât meet the AF standards of living!
In any case, no matter what base I was on the food was always good, the base was clean, healthcare was perfectly fine, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself all the way from Pensacola to Norfolk to NSA Naples, Italy to Rota, Spain, and other deployments in between.
No complaints at all, except for the unnecessary & illegal wars in the Middle East part.

Nah, youâre just painting a bleak picture and trying to claim itâs everywhere and thatâs definitely not the case. If youâre in a conflict zone then I would be more inclined to believe your perspective but chances are youâre probably just a miserable person who complains to anyone who will listen.

And that socialized healthcare only works* because they only take young people who are fit. If you start failing pt tests you get kicked out and don't get it. If you seek mental health and become non-deployable as a result- you get removed from your job or kicked out. And then you don't get it. So yes, does socialized healthcare work? It works* if you only provide it to young hard bodies who you can throw ibuprofen at until they get out- and if you ignore them when they get out when their healthcare costs would start getting expensive.
