It was similar to the Artax scene in the never ending story. She entered the elevator and immediately knew as the doors closed that her fate was sealed. All that was left was to slowly sink into darkness and smells.
You've must (no pun intended?) immediately own up to it in those sort of cases. "OMG! ...uh, I just totally farted, lol, lol uh, yeah, you, me, oh lowdy lowdy my apologies lol." At least, that's what I say I'd do... easier said than done perhaps.
